Faro Waste Rock Project: Characterizing geochemical heterogeneity in sulfide- and carbonate-rich waste rock

open access: yesApplied Geochemistry, 2020
Abstract Sustained oxidation of sulfide minerals in waste rock generates acid mine drainage for time frames of hundreds to thousands of years. Management to minimize long-term degradation of water supplies and ecosystem health requires a thorough understanding of geochemical processes occurring within the waste rock.

Muti-scale analysis of solidification/stabilization (S/S) of Pb-contaminated dredged sediment using nano-SiO2 modified cement

open access: yesJournal of Rock Mechanics and Geotechnical Engineering
The remediation of lead-contaminated dredged sediments (LDS) presents significant environmental challenges. This study investigates the solidification/stabilization (S/S) mechanisms of ordinary Portland cement (OPC) modified with nano-silica (NS) across ...

Ceramic products obtained from rock wastes [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Materials Processing Technology, 2003
Abstract Residue powders resulting from cutting and machining operations in slate quarries were processed by a press and sintering route to manufacture ceramic products such as flooring and roofing tiles. The first part of this work consisted of a laboratory study carried out by uniaxially pressing the powders to shape and sintering in air using a ...

Experimental study on deformation and failure of cemented filling body in open-pit end slope under different loading rates

open access: yesMeikuang Anquan, 2022
In order to reveal the influence of loading rate on the deformation and failure of cemented waste rock filling body, uniaxial compression tests of cemented waste rock filling body under five groups of loading rates were carried out, and the changes of ...

Effect of Cyclic Lateral Loading on the Compaction Behaviour of Waste Rock Backfill Materials in Coal Mines

open access: yesEnergies, 2018
Crushed waste rock (CWR) can be used as backfill for goafs allowing disposal of solid waste and control of surface subsidence. Waste rocks for backfilling (WRBs) have a certain density before use if cyclic lateral loads are applied to CWRs, therefore, by

3D (Bio) Printing Combined Fiber Fabrication Methods for Tissue Engineering Applications: Possibilities and Limitations

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Biofabrication aims at providing innovative technologies and tools for the fabrication of tissue‐like constructs for tissue engineering and regenerative medicine applications. By integrating multiple biofabrication technologies, such as 3D (bio) printing with fiber fabrication methods, it would be more realistic to reconstruct native tissue's ...

From Waste to Value: Conversion of Calcium Sulfate to Vaterite via Carbon Capture and Storage

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This study introduces a new concept for carbon management that relies on the carbonation of industrial gypsum waste and yields phase‐pure vaterite at ambient conditions without any additives. The obtained vaterite is further shown to be a reactive material that develops compressive strength in aqueous suspensions like conventional cements.
