Tipping water balance and the Pt loading effect in polymer electrolyte fuel cells: a model-based analysis

open access: yes, 2018
The commercial deployment of polymer electrolyte fuel cells (PEFCs) hinges on breakthroughs in design and integration of highly performing and durable catalyst layers with markedly reduced platinum loading.

Detailed balance = complex balance + cycle balance. A graph-theoretic proof for reaction networks and Markov chains [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2020
We further clarify the relation between detailed-balanced and complex-balanced equilibria of reversible chemical reaction networks. Our results hold for arbitrary kinetics and also for boundary equilibria. Detailed balance, complex balance, "formal balance", and the new notion of "cycle balance" are all defined in terms of the underlying graph.

Principle of Balance and the Sea Content of the Proton [PDF]

open access: yesPhys.Rev. D65 (2002) 114005, 2002
In this study, the proton is taken as an ensemble of quark-gluon Fock states. Using the principle of balance that every Fock state should be balanced with all of the nearby Fock states (denoted as the balance model), instead of the principle of detailed balance that any two nearby Fock states should be balanced with each other (denoted as the detailed ...

Novel Biologically Active Glass Fiber Functionalized Using Magnesium Phosphate Cement Promotes Bone and Vascular Regeneration

open access: yesAdvanced Biology, EarlyView.
In this study, a new type of bioactive glass fiber ‐based composite magnesium phosphate bone cement is prepared and verified that its mechanical strength and biological properties. In addition, the cement may have played a biologically active role in the Notch and HIF signaling pathways.

Determining the Necessity of Post‐Processing Heat Treatment for the 316L Stainless Steel Manufactured by Laser Powder Bed Fusion through Evaluation of Mechanical and Corrosion Properties

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This article examines the effect of postprocessing heat treatment on 316L stainless steel (SS316L) produced via laser powder bed fusion (LPBF). Heat treatment slightly affects property anisotropy, reduces strength, and enhances elongation. However, it increases corrosion susceptibility due to nanoscale precipitations, though overall corrosion ...

The effect of porosity on performance of phosphoric acid doped polybenzimidazole polymer electrolyte membrane fuel cell

open access: yesEPJ Web of Conferences, 2016
A polybenzimidazole (PBI) based polymer electrolyte fuel cells, which called high temperature polymer electrolyte fuel cells (HT-PEMS), operate at higher temperatures (120-200°C) than conventional PEM fuel cells.

Regulation of aquaporin-2 in the kidney: A molecular mechanism of body-water homeostasis

open access: yesKidney Research and Clinical Practice, 2013
The kidneys play a key role in the homeostasis of body water and electrolyte balance. Aquaporin-2 (AQP2) is the vasopressin-regulated water-channel protein expressed at the connecting tubule and collecting duct, and plays a key role in urine ...
