Numerical Analysis of the Mixed-Lubrication Performance of Staved Stern Tube Bearings Lubricated with Water

open access: yesLubricants, 2023
The present study aims to establish a mixed lubrication model for staved stern tube bearings lubricated with water, in which the average Reynolds equation and a KE elastic–plastic contact model are introduced to calculate the hydrodynamic pressure and ...

Analysis of Water-Lubricated Journal Bearings Assisted by a Small Quantity of Secondary Lubricating Medium with Navier–Stokes Equation and VOF Model

open access: yesLubricants
Due to the low viscosity of water, water-lubricated bearings are susceptible to significant wear and noise in demanding operating conditions. It has been demonstrated that a small quantity of secondary lubricating medium can improve the lubrication ...

TEM characterisation of near surface deformation resulting from lubricated sliding wear of aluminium alloy and composites [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
Aluminium alloy composites have been extensively investigated for use in tribo-contact applications, however little detailed literature exists on the sub-surface microstructural evolution as a result of lubricated sliding wear.

Influence of Structural and Operating Parameters on Lubrication Performance of Water-Lubricated Polymer Bearing with Journal Misalignment

open access: yesLubricants, 2022
Marine water-lubricated polymer bearings support the propeller shaft that stretches out of the ship. The bending deformation of propeller shaft often leads to journal misalignment, significantly impacting the bearing performance.

Influence of roughness on ZDDP tribofilm formation in boundary lubricated fretting [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
Influence of initial surface topography on tribofilm formation in ZDDP lubricated contact was analysed. A small displacement fretting tests with sinusoidal motion were carried out in classical sphere/plane configuration.

Experimental Evaluation of 100Cr6 Steel Microindented Surfaces Under Lubricated Nonconformal Point Contacts

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
The tribological behavior of 100Cr6 steel spheres textured via Vickers microindentation is evaluated under lubricated sliding by varying both dimple size and density. Fine and dense textures significantly reduce friction across all lubrication regimes, while large dimples increase it.
