Spatiotemporal cooling efficiency analysis of water structures: A case study of the Beni-Haroun Dam, Algeria [PDF]

open access: yesGlasnik Srpskog Geografskog Društva
Water cool Islands (WCIs) are a key strategy for mitigating Surface Urban Heat Islands (SUHIs) despite the characteristic limitations of water bodies.

Index to water data

open access: yesEos, Transactions American Geophysical Union, 1981
The U.S. Geological Survey recently published the seventh edition of the index to the information catalog on surface and ground water data. The data, collected at more than 100,000 sites across the country, are based on information provided by federal, state, and local agencies.

Aquatic Invertebrate Community Structure, Biological Condition, Habitat, and Water Quality at Ozark National Scenic Riverways, Missouri, 2005-2014 [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
Ozark National Scenic Riverways (OZAR) was established to protect the corridor of the Current River and its major tributary, the Jacks Fork. The Current River is one of the few remaining free-flowing rivers in the U.S., with much of its base flow coming ...

Enteropathogenic E. coli shows delayed attachment and host response in human jejunum organoid‐derived monolayers compared to HeLa cells

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Enteropathogenic E. coli (EPEC) infects the human intestinal epithelium, resulting in severe illness and diarrhoea. In this study, we compared the infection of cancer‐derived cell lines with human organoid‐derived models of the small intestine. We observed a delayed in attachment, inflammation and cell death on primary cells, indicating that host ...

Automated Extraction and Mapping for Desert Wadis from Landsat Imagery in Arid West Asia

open access: yesRemote Sensing, 2016
Wadis, ephemeral dry rivers in arid desert regions that contain water in the rainy season, are often manifested as braided linear channels and are of vital importance for local hydrological environments and regional hydrological management.

Buffer zone water repellency: effects of the management practice [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
Water repellency index R was measured in a heavy clay and a sandy loam, used as arable land or buffer zone (BZ). Further, effect of management practise and ageing of BZs were studied.

Sonic Gradient Index Lens for Aqueous Applications

open access: yes, 2010
We study the acoustic scattering properties of a phononic crystal designed to behave as a gradient index lens in water, both experimentally and theoretically.

An upstream open reading frame regulates expression of the mitochondrial protein Slm35 and mitophagy flux

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This study reveals how the mitochondrial protein Slm35 is regulated in Saccharomyces cerevisiae. The authors identify stress‐responsive DNA elements and two upstream open reading frames (uORFs) in the 5′ untranslated region of SLM35. One uORF restricts translation, and its mutation increases Slm35 protein levels and mitophagy.

Two-Step Urban Water Index (TSUWI): A New Technique for High-Resolution Mapping of Urban Surface Water

open access: yesRemote Sensing, 2018
Urban surface water mapping is essential for studying its role in urban ecosystems and local microclimates. However, fast and accurate extraction of urban water remains a great challenge due to the limitations of conventional water indexes and the ...
