Hydrological Alteration Index as an Indicator of the Calibration Complexity of Water Quantity and Quality Modeling in the Context of Global Change [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
Modeling is a useful way to understand human and climate change impacts on the water resources of agricultural watersheds. Calibration and validation methodologies are crucial in forecasting assessments.

Tau acetylation at K331 has limited impact on tau pathology in vivo

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We mapped tau post‐translational modifications in humanized MAPT knock‐in mice and in amyloid‐bearing double knock‐in mice. Acetylation within the repeat domain, particularly around K331, showed modest increases under amyloid pathology. To test functional relevance, we generated MAPTK331Q knock‐in mice.

Structural insights into an engineered feruloyl esterase with improved MHET degrading properties

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
A feruloyl esterase was engineered to mimic key features of MHETase, enhancing the degradation of PET oligomers. Structural and computational analysis reveal how a point mutation stabilizes the active site and reshapes the binding cleft, expading substrate scope.

Vulnerability Liquefaction Mapping in Padang City Based on Cloud Computing Using Optical Satellite Imagery Data

open access: yesJOIV: International Journal on Informatics Visualization
Liquefaction is a significant geological hazard in earthquake-prone locations like Padang City, Indonesia. The phenomenon happens when saturated soil loses strength owing to seismic shaking, resulting in substantial infrastructure damage.

Water Supply Management Index

open access: yesWater
One of the limiting factors in the implementation of water resource management is the absence of tools that help water programs evaluate processes and progress. This is because, until now, the indicators that have been developed have not addressed specific local characteristics and issues.

Defocus test and defocus correction in full-field optical coherence tomography

open access: yes, 2009
We report experimental evidence and correction of defocus in full-field OCT of biological samples due to mismatch of the refractive index of biological tissues and water.

Fruit and Leaf Sensing for Continuous Detection of Nectarine Water Status [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
Continuous assessment of plant water status indicators might provide the most precise information for irrigation management and automation, as plants represent an interface between soil and atmosphere.

A methionine‐lined active site governs carbocation stabilization and product specificity in a bacterial terpene synthase

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This study reveals a unique active site enriched in methionine residues and demonstrates that these residues play a critical role by stabilizing carbocation intermediates through novel sulfur–cation interactions. Structure‐guided mutagenesis further revealed variants with significantly altered product profiles, enhancing pseudopterosin formation. These

Changes in the Lake Area of Tonle Sap: Possible Linkage to Runoff Alterations in the Lancang River?

open access: yesRemote Sensing, 2018
Tonle Sap Lake is the largest freshwater lake in Southeast Asia. Water development infrastructures are increasingly being constructed in the Lancang–Mekong River Basin, which is a major concern considering its potential impact on Tonle Sap Lake ...

A Generalized Water Quality Index for Taiwan [PDF]

open access: yesEnvironmental Monitoring and Assessment, 2004
By exploring the behavior and limitations of conventional methods for quality evaluation, a better overall index for water quality in Taiwan and its application in Keya River are proposed. The thirteen variables are employed for the quality assessment.
