Water intake and factors affecting water intake of growing beef cattle

open access: yesLivestock Science, 2011
Abstract A study was conducted to measure water intake in 7 to 9 mo old growing beef cattle, and to determine the effect of breed composition, gender, dry matter intake and body weight (BW) gain on water consumption. Growing bulls, steers, and heifers (n = 146; average starting BW of 276 ± 67 kg) were housed in an open-sided barn for a period of 13 ...

Detection of circulating tumor DNA in colorectal cancer patients using a methylation‐specific droplet digital PCR multiplex

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
We developed a cost‐effective methylation‐specific droplet digital PCR multiplex assay containing tissue‐conserved and tumor‐specific methylation markers. The assay can detect circulating tumor DNA with high accuracy in patients with localized and metastatic colorectal cancer.

Exploiting metabolic adaptations to overcome dabrafenib treatment resistance in melanoma cells

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
We show that dabrafenib‐resistant melanoma cells undergo mitochondrial remodeling, leading to elevated respiration and ROS production balanced by stronger antioxidant defenses. This altered redox state promotes survival despite mitochondrial damage but renders resistant cells highly vulnerable to ROS‐inducing compounds such as PEITC, highlighting redox

Adropin Is a Key Mediator of Hypoxia Induced Anti-Dipsogenic Effects via TRPV4-CamKK-AMPK Signaling in the Circumventricular Organs of Rats

open access: yesFrontiers in Molecular Neuroscience, 2017
Water intake reduction (anti-dipsogenic effects) under hypoxia has been well established, but the underlying reason remains unknown. Our previous report indicated that activated TRPV4 neurons in SFO are associated with anti-dipsogenic effects under ...

Using crystalline amino acids to supplement broiler chicken requirements in reduced protein diets

open access: yesPoultry Science, 2020
Reducing dietary CP can reduce N pollution. Much research has been reported in corn-based diets; however, the amino acid (AA) profiles of wheat-based diets differ. Poor performance as a result of reduced protein (RP) has been overcome in corn-based diets
