Lubrication in a Sea Water Environment

SAE Technical Paper Series, 1963
<div class="htmlview paragraph">Since the Navy's habitat is the ocean area of the world, sea water is an environmental factor which must be reckoned with and, if possible, used to advantage where lubrication of ship' s machinery is concerned. Three situations within the above concept are (<span class="xref">1</span>) protection from ...

Tribological and physical properties of PTFE-NBR self-lubricating composites under water lubrication

, 2020
Purpose This paper aims to explore the possibility of converting the nitrile butadiene rubber (NBR) water-lubricated bearing material into a self-lubricating bearing material by the action of polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) particles and water ...

Sliding friction characteristics of styrene butadiene rubbers with varied surface roughness under water lubrication

Tribology International, 2019
We investigated the effect of the surface topography of rubbers on their wet sliding friction characteristics. For six types of rubber samples with different viscoelastic properties, rubber specimens with five levels of surface roughness were prepared ...

Water Lubrication of Ni/Al2O3 Composite Coatings Sliding With Si3N4

, 2020
Inspired by the excellent water lubrication properties of Al2O3, two methods are used to fabricate Ni/Al2O3 composite coatings for water lubrication. One is the conventional composite electroplating technique (one-step process). The other is depositing

Water droplet lubrication for micromachines

Materials Science, 2007
Water droplets placed on hydrophilic surface decrease the friction coefficient in the process of sliding over the hydrophobic surface. The droplets placed between these surfaces sustain loads of up to 170 mN and the friction coefficient for these surfaces is equal to 1.1 · 10−3.

Friction properties of polyacrylamide hydrogel particle/HDPE composite under water lubrication

Polymer, 2019
In order to apply the hydration lubrication of soft material in heavy load engineering fields, a series of polyacrylamide (PAAm) hydrogel particle/high-density polyethylene (HDPE) composites were prepared.

Water lubrication of PTFE composites

Industrial Lubrication and Tribology, 2015
Purpose– The paper aims to present results on the friction and the wear of polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) and eight commercially available composites with PTFE matrix, for tests done on shoe/roller tribotester with water lubrication in open circuit. There are pointed out particular tribological processes within the superficial layers of the composites ...
