ABL kinase‐dependent phosphorylation of SH proteins promotes their direct interaction with CRK family SH2 domains

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
CT10 regulator of kinase (CRK) and CRK‐Like (CRKL) are signaling adaptors driving cell adhesion, motility, differentiation, and proliferation. SH2‐domain containing (SH) proteins are enriched in YXXP motifs which when phosphorylated create preferred binding sites for CRK family SH2 domains.

Observed seasonal evolution and origins of the western Yellow Sea Cold Water Mass

open access: yesFrontiers in Marine Science
The Yellow Sea Cold Water Mass (YSCWM) is one of the most prominent hydrological features of the Yellow Sea. As a low-temperature, nutrient-rich subsurface water mass, the YSCWM fundamentally regulates biogeochemical cycles, functions of marine ...

Identification of a Shiga toxin A‐derived peptide internalized into Gb3 receptor‐bearing cells via interaction with the Shiga toxin B subunit

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The process of internalization of the Shiga toxin A subunit via formation of a complex with the Shiga toxin B subunit, which specifically binds to the Gb3 receptor. The peptide is designed to act as a carrier of drugs into cancer cells. Here, we explored the potential of peptides derived from the catalytic A subunit of Shiga toxin (STxA) to be drug ...

Water Masses and Depth Structure Prokaryotic and T4-Like Viral Communities Around Hydrothermal Systems of the Nordic Seas

open access: yesFrontiers in Microbiology, 2018
The oceanographic features of the Nordic Seas, situated between Iceland and Svalbard, have been extensively studied over the last decades. As well, the Nordic Seas hydrothermal systems situated on the Arctic Mid-Ocean Ridge System have received an ...

The therapeutic opportunities and pitfalls of using iron ion chelators to treat neurodegenerative diseases

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Although too much iron in the brain promotes neurodegeneration, iron ion chelators have had mixed effects in clinical trials. This review explains why; some chelators do not render the iron redox‐inactive (e.g., L1) whereas others do (e.g., desferrioxamine).

Nutrient/TOR signaling controls adipose mitochondrial transcription factor A (TFAM) to regulate organismal growth in Drosophila

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Animals must match their growth rate to available nutrients. We show that in Drosophila larvae, the nutrient‐sensing TOR kinase controls growth by regulating levels of TFAM, a key regulator of mitochondrial function, in the adipose tissue. When nutrients are abundant, high TOR activity suppresses TFAM, lowering mitochondrial bioenergetic activity and ...

The holoplankton of the Santa Catarina coast, southern Brazil

open access: yesAnais da Academia Brasileira de Ciências, 2011
This paper presents information from different sampling surveys carried out along the Santa Catarina coast in order to outline the biogeographical characteristics of the zooplankton in this region and identify species or groups of species with potential ...

Peripheral lysosomes recruit PLEKHG3 to focal adhesions and restrain protrusion dynamics

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Proximity‐dependent labeling at the LAMTOR complex revealed the Rho GEF PLEKHG3 as a lysosome‐proximal protein directing the study toward the influence of lysosome positioning on actin dynamics and cell motility. We show that PLEKHG3 colocalizes with lysosomes at focal adhesion sites and observe that forced peripheral dispersion of lysosomes hinders ...

The microbiome in human skin aging

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Age‐related skin changes encompass the well‐known visible phenotypic alterations, together with microbiome dysbiosis and a series of molecular aging hallmarks. These hallmarks characterize not only a fully stablished aged phenotype but also the skin aging process itself.
