Study of Drought Characteristics and Atmospheric Circulation Mechanisms via a “Cloud Model”, Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, China

open access: yesAgronomy
Droughts are long-term natural disasters and encompass many unknown factors. Herein, yearly and seasonal standardized precipitation evapotranspiration index (SPEI) values were calculated by analyzing monthly temperature and precipitation data from 1971 ...

Expression and purification of E140 protein antigen fragments of Plasmodium vivax and Plasmodium berghei for serological assays

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
We provide a step‐by‐step guide for producing E140 antigen fragments from Plasmodium berghei (Pb1) and Plasmodium vivax (Pv1). Pb1/Pv1 are expressed in E. coli, solubilized by freeze–thawing, refolded by slow dilution, purified by affinity chromatography (IMAC), then concentrated and subjected to quality control.

CD44v, S1PR1, HER3, MET and cancer‐associated amino acid transporters are promising targets for the pancreatic cancers characterized using mAb

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Novel mAbs could detect cancer‐associated membrane proteins on various type of pancreatic ductal adenocarcinomas (PDAC) by flow cytometry with viable PDAC cells and by immunohistochemistry with PDAC tissues. Results of protein expression were substantiated by mRNA expression by The Cancer Genome Atlas.

Study on Alfalfa Water Use Efficiency and Optimal Irrigation Strategy in Agro-Pastoral Ecotone, Northwestern China

open access: yesAgronomy
Agro-pastoral ecotone is an important livestock production area in the north of China, and alfalfa is the main pasture crop in this area. Aiming to address the issues of groundwater overexploitation in the area with water demand, we assessed the ...

Identification, mapping, and eco-hydrological signal analysis for groundwater-dependent ecosystems (GDEs) in Langxi River basin, north China [PDF]

open access: yesHydrology and Earth System Sciences
Groundwater-dependent ecosystems (GDEs) refer to ecosystems that require partial or complete access to groundwater to maintain their ecological structure and functions, providing very important services for the health of land, water, and coastal ...

Improving a pavement-watering method on the basis of pavement surface temperature measurements [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
Pavement-watering has been studied since the 1990's and is currently considered a promising tool for urban heat island reduction and climate change adaptation. However, possible future water resource availability problems require that water consumption be optimized.

Purification and characterization of a thermophilic NAD+‐dependent lactate dehydrogenase from Moorella thermoacetica

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
The thermophilic acetogenic model organism Moorella thermoacetica can utilize lactate as substrate. The formation of lactate by reduction of pyruvate is energetically favorable, but the reverse reaction, the oxidation of lactate to pyruvate with NAD+ as electron acceptor is challenging.

Evaluation of synaptotagmin‐1 action models by all‐atom molecular dynamics simulations

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
We used molecular dynamics simulations to test models proposing that synaptotagmin‐1 facilitates membrane fusion by perturbing lipid bilayers, inducing membrane curvature and/or bridging membranes. The simulations show that synaptotagmin‐1 C2‐domains placed near the site of fusion hinder the ability of SNARE complexes to bring the membranes together ...

SMGformer: integrating STL and multi-head self-attention in deep learning model for multi-step runoff forecasting

open access: yesScientific Reports
Accurate runoff forecasting is of great significance for water resource allocation flood control and disaster reduction. However, due to the inherent strong randomness of runoff sequences, this task faces significant challenges. To address this challenge,

The declining cyanobacterial blooms in Lake Taihu (China) in 2021: The interplay of nutrients and meteorological determinants

open access: yesEcological Indicators, 2022
The cyanobacterial blooms are global environmental perils and have been extensively compounded and changeable in Lake Taihu with emerging significantly higher intensities during 2016–2019 than those in 2010–2015.
