Responses of Reindeer to Water Loading, Water Restriction and ADH

Acta Physiologica Scandinavica, 1977
AbstractTwo female reindeer were hydrated by administration of (10% of b.wt.) water into the rumen. The diuretic response was very fast and strong but the urea and electrolyte excretion were little affected. Dehydration was carried out by not giving the reindeer water for 48 h. This water deprivation caused a loss of up to 20% of their body weight. The

Food and Water Restriction in the Wrestler

JAMA: The Journal of the American Medical Association, 1979
The present practice in wrestling of "making weight" is hazardous to the health of growing young men, primarily because competitors lose too high a percentage of body fat. The Tcheng-Tipton-Clarke method should be used to control food restriction, while observation of specific gravity of urine should be used to control fluid restriction and hydration.

Encounters in Restricted Waters

Journal of Navigation, 1984
Lewison gave a brief outline in modelling of marine traffic flow and gave four possible definitions of the ship to ship encounter as well as developing his own optimal criteria. Barratt has been working on the concept of an encounter for several years and has developed the postulates given by Stratton in a presidential address to the Royal Institute of

Water consumption and the effects of water restriction on performance of broilers in the tropics

British Poultry Science, 1981
1. The water requirements of broilers in a hot, humid tropical environment were measured and the effects of four forms of water restriction were investigated over 9 weeks. 2. Voluntary water intake was 10 1 over 9 weeks, about 4.3 1 being consumed during the last 2 weeks. 3.

Analyzing the Effect of Mandatory Water Restrictions on Water Usage

The B.E. Journal of Economic Analysis & Policy, 2020
Abstract As water rights and water usage become an ever more important part of municipalities’ and states’ way of life, it becomes important to understand what policies can be effective for encouraging conservation of water. One method that has been employed at various times and throughout numerous communities is to limit outdoor ...

Effect of water restriction on equine behaviour and physiology

Equine Veterinary Journal, 2000
Summary Six pregnant mares were used to determine what level of water restriction causes physiological and/or behavioural changes indicative of stress. Nonlegume hay was fed ad libitum. During the first week of restriction, 5 l water/100 kg bwt was available, during the ...

Navigation in crowded and restricted waters

Transport Reviews, 1981
Abstract The freedom of the seas, or the right of innocent passage whereby the Master of a ship may proceed as and how he chooses has, in recent years, come under considerable public scrutiny. This scrutiny has resulted in an increasing intervention by land‐based authorities to limit the traditional freedoms, by means of regulating the flow of shipping

The behaviour of a ship in restricted waters

International Shipbuilding Progress, 1977
This paper deals with the problem of the behaviour of a ship in restricted waters with special regard to underkeel clearance. The main factors affecting the keel clearance are squat, heaving and pitching motions, the occurrence of a heeling angle due to windpressure and ruddermovements and the rolling motion.

Enzymatic transesterifications of carbonates in water‐restricted environments

Biotechnology and Bioengineering, 1989
AbstractWe investigated the ability of several hydrolases to catalyze reactions with an abiotic water‐insoluble substrate, carbonic acid diphenyl ester, also known as diphenyl carbonate (DPC). In single‐phase water/organic systems, turnover numbers (TN) of greater than 2 × 104 min−1have been achieved for the hydrolysis of DPC.

Vessel Controllability in Restricted Waters

Journal of the Waterways, Harbors and Coastal Engineering Division, 1971
Existing knowledge of hydrodynamic factors affecting the movement of a ship in restricted waterways is critically examined. It is shown that the external forces can be either active, such as rudder power from either engine or rudder (and even tugboats), or passive, such as improved communications which enable quicker response to a change in ...
