Liquid Water Restricts Habitability in Extreme Deserts
Astrobiology, 2017Liquid water is a requirement for biochemistry, yet under some circumstances it is deleterious to life. Here, we show that liquid water reduces the upper temperature survival limit for two extremophilic photosynthetic microorganisms (Gloeocapsa and Chroococcidiopsis spp.) by greater than 40°C under hydrated conditions compared to desiccated conditions.

Enhanced self-diffusion of water in restricted geometry
Physical Review Letters, 1989Self-diffusion of water contained in a porous glass is observed to be strongly enhanced if the pore space is only partially filled. This can be explained by a novel mechanism involving indirect molecular exchange between the liquid and the vapor phase.

The pathophysiological effects of water and feed restriction in chickens
Avian Pathology, 1991Three-to-five days of water restriction in 5-week-old chickens produced mild dilatation of tubules in distal nephron segments and epithelial necrosis. Most dilated tubules were empty or contained proteinaceous casts. The histopathological changes were more frequent in the left kidney.

A navigation system for restricted waters
Ocean 73 - IEEE International Conference on Engineering in the Ocean Environment, 1973A combination of Raydist "T" and WANG Programmable Calculator Systems provides a capability for local precise navigation over large areas of up to 10,000 square miles. Daytime positioning accuracy of 10 yards is usual for an unlimited number of users.

Endocrine and renal response to water loading and water restriction in normal man
Clinical Science, 19881. Nine normal subjects (eight male, one female) on a fixed daily intake of 150 mmol of sodium and 80 mnol of potassium, were randomized to receive either 3 days of 1.0 litre total water intake/24 h (food + fluid) or 4 days of 6.8 litres total water intake/24 h, and were then crossed over after a 3 day control period (2.7 litres water/24 h).

Effectiveness of water rate increases following watering restrictions
Journal AWWA, 2002The persistence of the drought has led numerous towns across the southwest to consider rate structure increases in addition to, and subsequent to, watering restrictions. Colorado Springs and Aurora have instituted postrestriction rate increases.
