Reconstructing enzyme evolution by protein engineering
Natural enzyme evolution can be retraced by protein engineering methods such as directed evolution, rational design, and ancestral sequence reconstruction. These approaches reveal how enzymes emerged from ligand‐binding scaffolds, developed varying substrate preferences, formed oligomeric complexes, adapted to environmental changes, and evolved novel ...

Proposing a strategy based on body-thermal status to improve the welfare of heat-stressed and water-deprived goats () [PDF]
Objective Despite the considerable body of research on the effects of heat stress coupled with water scarcity (either through restriction or deprivation) on goats, aimed at enhancing their welfare, there remains a notable gap in the literature regarding ...

The process of internalization of the Shiga toxin A subunit via formation of a complex with the Shiga toxin B subunit, which specifically binds to the Gb3 receptor. The peptide is designed to act as a carrier of drugs into cancer cells. Here, we explored the potential of peptides derived from the catalytic A subunit of Shiga toxin (STxA) to be drug ...

Modelling bounce-back in water consumption post-drought
Focused on a case study of Geelong, Victoria, this paper presents the results of a unique comparison of (i) a custombuilt regression model for forecasting total customer water demand and (ii) end-use based water projections using the integrated Supply ...

Impact of water restriction periods on carcass traits and meat quality of feedlot lambs in the Brazilian semi-arid region. [PDF]
Water restriction periods were evaluated in crossbred lambs (n=32) distributed in one of four treatments: without water restriction, water restriction for 24, 48 and 72 h.

The role of miR‐335‐5p in the redifferentiation of BRAF p.V600E thyroid cancers
The BRAF p.V600E mutation promotes thyroid cancer dedifferentiation and radioiodine resistance. Using a network approach, we identified miR‐335‐5p as a key regulator of BRAF‐mutated thyroid tumors. Restoring miR‐335‐5p increased thyroid‐specific gene expression and iodine uptake in cells and organoids.

A Novel Method for Managing Water and Electrolyte Balance after Transsphenoidal Surgery: Preliminary Study of Moderate Water Intake Restriction [PDF]
2014-02Hyponatremia is a common and potentially serious complication of transsphenoidal surgery (TSS). Since September 2009, we have implemented moderate water intake restriction (

Aptamers are used both therapeutically and as targeting agents in cancer treatment. We developed an aptamer‐targeted PLGA–TRAIL nanosystem that exhibited superior therapeutic efficacy in NOD/SCID breast cancer models. This nanosystem represents a novel biotechnological drug candidate for suppressing resistance development in breast cancer.

Effects of PF-05231023 during water restriction.
Water intake (A), urine output (B), urine electrolyte concentrations (C) and urine electrolyte excretion (D) were measured in rats that were water restricted for 12 hours (n = 10). Water restriction was initiated immediately after dosing.
