Determining the unsaturated hydraulic conductivity of a compacted sand-bentonite mixture under constant volume and free-swell conditions [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
Highly compacted sand-bentonite mixtures are often considered as possible engineered barriers in deep high-level radioactive waste disposals. In-situ, the saturation of these barriers from their initially unsaturated state is a complex hydro-mechanical ...

Adaptaquin is selectively toxic to glioma stem cells through disruption of iron and cholesterol metabolism

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Adaptaquin selectively kills glioma stem cells while sparing differentiated brain cells. Transcriptomic and proteomic analyses show Adaptaquin disrupts iron and cholesterol homeostasis, with iron chelation amplifying cytotoxicity via cholesterol depletion, mitochondrial dysfunction, and elevated reactive oxygen species.

Valorization of kinnow fruit wastes: Sustainable approach towards environment [PDF]

open access: yesFood and Feed Research
During the processing of kinnow into juice, around 30-34% of the fruit peel and an average of 20-25 seeds are generated as trash. Consequently, the present study aims to determine the elemental composition, proximate, and oil content of locally ...

Difficult encounters around "monkey cheeks": Farmers' interests and the design of flood retention areas in Thailand [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
Flood retention areas are being increasingly promoted for flood risk management. People living in these areas will accept them if their interests are taken into account.

Changes in the water retention value and the sheet strength of TMP followed by post-sulfite cooking.

open access: yesJAPAN TAPPI JOURNAL, 1989
The object of this paper is to examine the influence of the changes in WRV of TMP follwed by post-sulfite cooking on the sheet density and the sheet strength.TMP classified over 42 wire mesh were treated with three types of sulfite liquor ranging from pH 4 to pH 13. Then, yield, sulfur content, water retention value, heat of wetting, crystalline index,

Patient‐specific pharmacogenomics demonstrates xCT as predictive therapeutic target in colon cancer with possible implications in tumor connectivity

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This study integrates transcriptomic profiling of matched tumor and healthy tissues from 32 colorectal cancer patients with functional validation in patient‐derived organoids, revealing dysregulated metabolic programs driven by overexpressed xCT (SLC7A11) and SLC3A2, identifying an oncogenic cystine/glutamate transporter signature linked to ...

Prediction of water retention of soils from the humid tropics by the nonparametric k-nearest neighbor approach [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
Nonparametric approaches such as the k-nearest neighbor (k-NN) approach are considered attractive for pedotransfer modeling in hydrology; however, they have not been applied to predict water retention of highly weathered soils in the humid tropics ...

Predictors of response and rational combinations for the novel MCL‐1 inhibitor MIK665 in acute myeloid leukemia

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This study characterizes the responses of primary acute myeloid leukemia (AML) patient samples to the MCL‐1 inhibitor MIK665. The results revealed that monocytic differentiation is associated with MIK665 sensitivity. Conversely, elevated ABCB1 expression is a potential biomarker of resistance to the treatment, which can be overcome by the combination ...

The effect of Water Retention Properties on the Shear Modulus of an Unsaturated Compacted Soil [PDF]

open access: yesE3S Web of Conferences
Compacted soils used in earthworks are often unsaturated and frequently subjected to repeated loading from various sources, including traffic, wind action, and seismic activity.
