FOOD SECURITY IN A WATER-SCARCE WORLD: MAKING VIRTUAL WATER COMPATIBLE WITH CROP WATER USE AND FOOD TRADE [PDF]

open access: yesScientific Papers Series : Management, Economic Engineering in Agriculture and Rural Development, 2013
Virtual water has been proposed as a mechanism with potential to reduce the effects of water scarcity on food security. To evaluate the role of virtual water in reducing the effect of water scarcity on food security, all components of the available water

Simultaneous Enhancement of Performance and Stability in Dual‐Gate a‐IGZO Thin‐Film Transistors via Single‐Step Laser Annealing for Capacitor‐Less DRAM

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A single‐step laser annealing strategy is presented for dual‐gate a‐IGZO TFTs. The steep thermal gradient induces graded oxygen doping in the channel and simultaneous WOx removal at the contacts, enabling concurrent interface and contact engineering.

Functionalizing Micro‐to‐Mesoscopic Electrode Architectures for Regulating Electron Transfer Behaviors in Electrocatalysis

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A systematic review is conducted to assess the influence of electrode architecture across micro‐ to mesoscopic length scales on electron‐transfer pathways in electrocatalysis. We discuss the structure‐activity relationships in electrocatalytic applications, including resource recovery and environmental remediation, and provide cost‐effective, efficient

Adapting crop production to water scarcity

open access: yesEnvironmental Research Letters
Rapidly growing global food demand requires increased crop production that is supported by groundwater irrigation in many agricultural regions. This pressure on water sources has led to groundwater depletion already and is likely to increase moving ...

Ultrafast Thermal Shock Synthesis of CuNiSnLa Medium‐Entropy Metallic Glass for Sustainable Nitrogen Fixation via Plasma‐Coupled Electrocatalysis

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This work introduces an ultrafast thermal shock strategy to synthesize a CuNiSnLa medium‐entropy metallic glass (MEMG). The rapid heating and cooling process generates a robust, highly active catalyst for electrocatalytic nitrate reduction to ammonia (NRA).

n‐Type Semiconductor Hydrogels for Tunable Organic Electrochemical Transistors Operation and Evaporation‐Driven Synergistic Energy Harvesting and Thermal Management

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This study develops a tunable n‐OSC hydrogel (PBFDO‐PAAc) platform with a tunable porous network and thermoelectric properties. It demonstrates the first report of n‐OSC hydrogels for evaporation‐driven hydrovoltaic‐thermoelectric electricity generation as well as chemically dedoping‐mediated OECT working mode reconfiguration. This work expands n‐OSCs’
