Changes in morphological traits associated with waterlogging, salinity and saline waterlogging in Festuca arundinacea

Functional Plant Biology, 2023
Rising incidences of waterlogging and salinity, particularly in extensive livestock farming areas, pose increasing challenges to plant growth. This study investigated the morphological growth responses and tolerance of 39 Festuca arundinacea accessions to these stresses, with tolerance quantified by the relative growth rate under stress versus control ...

Waterlogging and Plant Nutrient Uptake

2010
Waterlogging affects several parameters that determine nutrient uptake from the soil by the roots. We checked systematically, for all the relevant parameters in the nutrient uptake model by Silberbush and Barber (Plant Soil 74:93–100, 1983), how waterlogging changes the magnitude of the parameter, changes that can be both positive and negative for ...

Effects of waterlogging on chickpeas I. Influence of timing of waterlogging

Plant and Soil, 1996
The effect of timing of waterlogging on chickpeas was examined in two pot trials. Plants were waterlogged for ten days from 21 days after sowing (DAS), at flowering or at mid-pod fill, plus combinations of these times. Waterlogging at any stage reduced seed yield; waterlogging at 21 DAS had the least effect, reducing yield relative to the non ...

Dating a Waterlogged Coffin

Medicine, Science and the Law, 1974
A Coffin found on a beach at Hayling Island, southern England was examined to determine the probable date of burial. The coffin, containing a skeleton, was found protruding from the upper middle shore. Pathological investigation disclosed identifiable brain tissue within the skull and the initial examination of the elm boards which formed the coffin ...

The response of lupins to waterlogging

Australian Journal of Experimental Agriculture and Animal Husbandry, 1976
The growth response of species and lines of lupin (Lupinus spp.) to short-term flooding of the root system during vegetative growth was measured in glasshouse and controlled environments. L. luteus was consistently more flood tolerant than L. albus, L. angustifolius and L. mutabilis.

Crop Response to Waterlogging

2020
Flooding is the primary cause of yield losses in Asia and Latin America while, worldwide, between 10 and 16% of the arable soils are estimated to be affected by waterlogging. Moreover, the frequency and intensity of flooding events is expected to increase in all world regions in consequence of climate change.
