Watershed-based Morphometric Analysis: A Review

open access: yes, 2018
Drainage basin/watershed analysis based on morphometric parameters is very important for watershed planning. Morphometric analysis of watershed is the best method to identify the relationship of various aspects in the area.

Mapping the evolution of mitochondrial complex I through structural variation

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Respiratory complex I (CI) is crucial for bioenergetic metabolism in many prokaryotes and eukaryotes. It is composed of a conserved set of core subunits and additional accessory subunits that vary depending on the organism. Here, we categorize CI subunits from available structures to map the evolution of CI across eukaryotes. Respiratory complex I (CI)

Water Quality Degradation in the Deli River Watershed, North Sumatra: Impacts of Land Use and Pollution Sources

open access: yesJournal of Natural Resources and Environmental Management
The Deli Watershed is crucial in Medan's hydrological cycle and the surrounding areas. It serves as a clean water source for Medan, but is also affected by urbanisation and industrial discharge.

Terrestrial and fluvial carbon fluxes in a tropical watershed: Nyong basin, Cameroon [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
The Nyong watershed, with an area of 27 800 km2 and a mean annual discharge of 390 m3 s−1, is the second largest river in Cameroon. The Nyong watershed serves as an outstanding study area for the examination of carbon fluxes in humid tropical ...

Plasmodium falciparum gametogenesis essential protein 1 (GEP1) is a transmission‐blocking target

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This study shows Plasmodium falciparum GEP1 is vital for activating sexual stages of malarial parasites even independently of a mosquito factor. Knockout parasites completely fail gamete formation even when a phosphodiesterase inhibitor is added. Two single‐nucleotide polymorphisms (V241L and S263P) are found in 12%–20% of field samples.

The importance of hydrogeomorphic setting for total mercury and methylmercury export from fen wetlands in western Canada

open access: yesFACETS
The export of neurotoxic mercury (Hg) and its bioavailable form, methylmercury (MeHg), from wetland-dominated catchments is common throughout boreal regions.

Community Land Conservation in the Coastal Watershed [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
The New Hampshire Estuaries Project (NHEP) provided a $10,000 grant to the Southeast Land Trust of New Hampshire (SELTNH) to support the hiring of a Community Land Protection Specialist to expand the region’s capacity to implement and complete ...

Brain Tumor Vascular Network Segmentation from Micro-Tomography [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
Micro-tomography produces high resolution images of bio- logical structures such as vascular networks. In this paper, we present a new approach for segmenting vascular network into pathological and normal regions from considering their micro-vessel 3D ...

4‐nitrobenzoate inhibits 4‐hydroxybenzoate polyprenyltransferase in malaria parasites and enhances atovaquone efficacy

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Atovaquone is an antimalarial requiring potentiation for sufficient efficacy. We pursued strategies to enhance its activity, showing that 4‐nitrobenzoate inhibits 4‐hydroxybenzoate polyprenyltransferase, decreasing ubiquinone biosynthesis. Since atovaquone competes with ubiquinol in mitochondria, 4‐nitrobenzoate facilitates its action, potentiating ...

The median as watershed

open access: yes, 2013
This paper is concerned with concepts – poverty, inequality, affluence, and polarization – that are typically treated in different literatures. Our aim here is to place them within a common framework and to identify the way in which different classes of income transfers contribute to different objectives. In particular, we examine the role of transfers
