Attenuation of magnetosonic waves by drift wave turbulence

Plasma Physics, 1983
Anomalous attenuation of magnetosonic oscillations driven in an RF-plasma and its dependence on the observed low-frequency density fluctuations are investigated. The fluctuations are identified by digital spectral analysis technique as unstable collisional drift modes leading to drift wave turbulence.

Dispersive Wave Attenuation Due to Orographic Forcing

SIAM Journal on Applied Mathematics, 2004
Summary: The O'Doherty-Anstey (ODA) approximation was originally formulated in the seismological literature for acoustic pulse propagation through a disordered stratified medium [\textit{R. F. O'Doherty} and \textit{N. A. Anstey}, Geophys. Prospect. 19, No. 3, 430--458 (1971)].

Thermal Attenuation of Nonlinear Stress Waves

Journal of Applied Physics, 1960
The work of Knopoff and MacDonald (1958) on the attenuation of nonlinear stress waves in solids has been extended to include thermal losses. The damping of a nonlinear stress wave is completely describable in terms of two attenuation coefficients, a ``mechanical'' coefficient α1, and a ``thermal'' coefficient α2.

Attenuation of Solitary Waves on A Smooth Bed

Transactions of the American Society of Civil Engineers, 1957
Mathematical analysis of attenuation process of solitary waves by viscous shear within laminar boundary layer between main potential flow under passing solitary wave and smooth horizontal channel bed; theoretical results are compared to experimental data of RUSSELL and A.T.IPPEN; kinetic energy minus potential energy is twice amount of kinetic energy ...

Alpha wave phase and alpha attenuation

Electroencephalography and Clinical Neurophysiology, 1974
Abstract 1. 1. Previous reports indicated that phase of the occipital alpha wave and cortical excitability are related. Habituation of the alpha attenuation response (AAR) to both visual and auditory stimuli was examined with a view to determining whether different degrees of habituation would be demonstrated when stimuli are presented at ...

ATTENUATION OF CONTINUOUS WAVE LASER RADIATION

American journal of optometry and archives of American Academy of Optometry, 1971
ABSTRACT Laser radiation is a known eye hazard to those in the industry. Many complicated and expensive devices have been made available by various safety experts in an attempt to combat this hazard.

Attenuation of waves in superconducting elliptical wave guides

Radiophysics and Quantum Electronics, 1972
Formulas are derived for the coefficients of attenuation of E and H waves in terms of the surface impedance for superconducting elliptical waveguides. Curves are given for the coefficients of attenuation of odd and even modes at various eccentricity values for niobium waveguides at 4.2 deg K. Analogous curves could be plotted for other temperatures and

Attenuation, dispersion, and the wave guide of the G wave

Bulletin of the Seismological Society of America, 1958
Abstract Using the strain seismograms of the New Guinea earthquake of 1938 and the Kamchatka earthquake of 1952, the decrement of the G wave in the mantle of the earth was determined from the comparison of the amplitude of Fourier components, which are obtained by analyzing the G phases at different epicentral distances. The value of 1/Q
