Artificial Life in an Exciton-Polariton Lattice

open access: yes, 2020
We show theoretically that a lattice of exciton-polaritons can behave as a life-like cellular automaton when simultaneously excited by a continuous wave coherent field and a time-periodic sequence of non-resonant pulses.

Detection efficiency of acoustic biotelemetry sensors on Wave Gliders [PDF]

open access: yesAnimal Biotelemetry, 2018
Abstract Background Detecting tagged animals in coastal environments is often limited to stationary arrays of acoustic receivers that can decode transmissions from tags on animals. However, mobile autonomous platforms are becoming important tools that support the science of understanding biophysical relationships because they can concurrently detect ...

Simulation research on hydrodynamic performance of wave glider airfoil

open access: yesJournal of Physics: Conference Series, 2023
Abstract To improve the wave energy utilization rate of the wave glider as the research goal, research on the improvement of the hydrodynamic performance of the airfoil of the wave glider was carried out. First, we extract the bionic airfoil A and the standard airfoil C and draw the design airfoil B and the regular airfoil D.

Rigid‐Flexible Coupling Units Enable Robust Large Birefringence

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
A rigid–flexible coupling strategy, combining flexible (S3)2− linear units with rigid (VO4)3− tetrahedra, yields Sr4(VO4)2S3—a robust crystal exhibiting large birefringence (Δn = 0.52@550 nm) and remarkable thermal, air, and water stability. ABSTRACT Birefringent crystals are central to polarization control in laser technologies (e.g., wave plates and ...

Cellular automaton supercolliders [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
Gliders in one-dimensional cellular automata are compact groups of non-quiescent and non-ether patterns (ether represents a periodic background) translating along automaton lattice.

Engineering Na‐Rich P2‐Type Layered Oxides Through Li/Ti Dual Doping for Oxygen Redox Activation and Superior Structural Stability

open access: yesAdvanced Energy Materials, EarlyView.
P2‐type sodium layered oxides have potential for high‐voltage operation but suffer from structural instability and capacity fading. This work demonstrates that synergistic Li and Ti co‐doping enhances sodium inventory, suppresses detrimental phase transitions, and activates reversible lattice oxygen redox.

Real - Time Detection and Communication System for Underwater Acoustic Gliders and Their Offshore Experimental

open access: yes水下无人系统学报
While performing underwater observation and detection, the underwater acoustic glider needs to finish the current profile glide to float to the surface for information exchange and thus fails to realize real-time data information return. In this paper, a

Ontology in the Game of Life [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
The game of life is an excellent framework for metaphysical modeling. It can be used to study ontological categories like space, time, causality, persistence, substance, emergence, and supervenience.

Localization dynamics in a binary two-dimensional cellular automaton: the Diffusion Rule [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
We study a two-dimensional cellular automaton (CA), called Diffusion Rule (DR), which exhibits diffusion-like dynamics of propagating patterns. In computational experiments we discover a wide range of mobile and stationary localizations (gliders ...
