Nonlocal response in plasmonic waveguiding with extreme light confinement

open access: yesNanophotonics, 2013
We present a novel wave equation for linearized plasmonic response, obtained by combining the coupled real-space differential equations for the electric field and current density.

Compact Single-Mode Silicon Hybrid Rib/Strip Waveguide With Adiabatic Bends

open access: yesIEEE Photonics Journal, 2011
We report a low-loss, hybrid silicon waveguide geometry that consists of straight rib sections with a propagation loss of 0.27 ± 0.012 dB/cm and compact photonic wire bends.

Sub‐THz Phase Shifters Enabled by Photoconductive Single‐Walled Carbon Nanotube Layers

open access: yesAdvanced Photonics Research, 2023
Materials with tunable dielectric properties are highly relevant for terahertz (THz) applications. Herein, the tuning of the dielectric response of single‐walled carbon nanotube layers by light illumination is studied for applications to THz phase ...

A Directly-Written Monolithic Waveguide-Laser Incorporating a DFB Waveguide-Bragg Grating [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
We report the fabrication and performance of the first C-band directly-written monolithic waveguide-laser. The waveguide-laser device was created in an Erbium and Ytterbium doped phosphate glass host and consisted of an optical waveguide that included a distributed feedback Bragg grating structure.

Gratings photowritten in ion-exchanged glass channel waveguides [PDF]

open access: yes, 1999
Gratings are photowritten in ion-exchanged glass channel waveguides. The transmission of these waveguides shows a rejection dip of almost 20dB.

Silicon-on-Nitride Waveguide With Ultralow Dispersion Over an Octave-Spanning Mid-Infrared Wavelength Range

open access: yesIEEE Photonics Journal, 2012
The proposed silicon-on-nitride (SON) waveguide exhibits an ultrabroadband (4200 nm), low chromatic dispersion in the mid-infrared (MIR) wavelength region from 2430 to 6630 nm. It has two zero-dispersion wavelengths within the span.

Supercontinuum in integrated photonics: generation, applications, challenges, and perspectives

open access: yesNanophotonics, 2023
Frequency conversion in nonlinear materials is an extremely useful solution to the generation of new optical frequencies. Often, it is the only viable solution to realize light sources highly relevant for applications in science and industry.

Quantum waveguides with corners [PDF]

open access: yesESAIM: Proceedings, 2012
The simplest modeling of planar quantum waveguides is the Dirichlet eigenproblem for the Laplace operator in unbounded open sets which are uniformly thin in one direction. Here we consider V-shaped guides. Their spectral properties depend essentially on a sole parameter, the opening of the V.

A Rigorous Circuit Model for Simulation of Large-Scale Photonic Integrated Circuits

open access: yesIEEE Photonics Journal, 2012
A rigorous circuit model for the simulation of large-scale photonic integrated circuit (PIC) is proposed and validated. Different from the conventional circuit theory, both guided and radiation fields are taken into consideration in the circuit model.

New silicon photonics integration platform enabled by novel micron-scale bends

open access: yes, 2013
Even though submicron silicon waveguides have been proposed for dense integration of photonic devices, to date the lightwave circuits on the market mainly rely on waveguides with micron-scale core dimensions.
