Circulating tumor cell viability during and after radiotherapy mirrors treatment response in cancer patients

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Radiotherapy (RT) response depends on the DNA repair capacity of tumor and host cells. We show that circulating tumor cell (CTC) counts and apoptosis rates before and after RT predict treatment response and outcome, which can be accessed via easily accessible liquid biopsy approaches. Created in BioRender. Wikman, H.

Wax-Based Sustained-Release Felodipine Oral Dosage Forms Manufactured Using Hot-Melt Extrusion and Their Resistance to Alcohol-Induced Dose Dumping

open access: yesPharmaceutics
Background/Objectives: Hot-melt extrusion (HME) has gained prominence for the manufacture of sustained-release oral dosage forms, yet the application of wax-based matrices and their resilience to alcohol-induced dose dumping (AIDD) remains underexplored.

Optimation of wax pattern manufacture - wax mixtures and equipment [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
Kvalitní voskový model je základním předpokladem kvalitního odlitku při použití metody ztraceného vosku. Velmi důležitou součástí této technologie je i znovupoužití vosků pomocí jejich regenerace a rekonstituce.A quality wax pattern is a basic presumtion

Comparative Transcriptome Analysis of Eggplant (Solanum melongena L.) Peels with Different Glossiness

open access: yesAgronomy
Peel glossiness is an important commercial trait of eggplant (Solanum melongena L.). In this study, two eggplant-inbred lines with different levels of peel glossiness were used to identify genes related to peel glossiness.

Raman‐based label‐free microscopic analysis of the pancreas in living zebrafish larvae

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Forward stimulated Raman scattering (F‐SRS) and epi coherent anti‐Stokes Raman scattering (E‐CARS) allow label‐free discrimination of distinct subcellular structures in the pancreas of living zebrafish larvae. Given the straightforward applicability, we anticipate broad implementation of Raman microscopy in other organs and across various biomedical ...

Polarization‐resolved femtosecond Vis/IR spectroscopy tailored for resolving weak signals in biological samples using minimal sample volume

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Unique biological samples, such as site‐specific mutant proteins, are available only in limited quantities. Here, we present a polarization‐resolved transient infrared spectroscopy setup with referencing to improve signal‐to‐noise tailored towards tracing small signals. We provide an overview of characterizing the excitation conditions for polarization‐

Waxing lyrical: ancient medical authors on wax and wax tablets

open access: yesDELTOS
This short survey discusses some of the uses of wax in ancient medicine: it was a key pharmacological ingredient; it served to create models of surgical tools; and it was a support for the writing of ancient recipes. Physicians distinguished between different types of wax, some of which were considered more efficacious than others.
