Measurement of the anomalous phase velocity of ballistic light in a random medium by use of a novel interferometer [PDF]

open access: yes, 2000
Ballistic light, i.e., radiation that propagates undeflected through a turbid medium, undergoes a small change in phase velocity and exhibits unusual dispersion because of its wave nature.

TRAIL‐PEG‐Apt‐PLGA nanosystem as an aptamer‐targeted drug delivery system potential for triple‐negative breast cancer therapy using in vivo mouse model

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Aptamers are used both therapeutically and as targeting agents in cancer treatment. We developed an aptamer‐targeted PLGA–TRAIL nanosystem that exhibited superior therapeutic efficacy in NOD/SCID breast cancer models. This nanosystem represents a novel biotechnological drug candidate for suppressing resistance development in breast cancer.

γ-Aminobutyric acid induces transcriptional changes contributing to salt tolerance in creeping bentgrass

open access: yesBiologia Plantarum, 2020
γ-Aminobutyric acid (GABA) regulates plant tolerance to abiotic stresses; however, a transcriptomic change and key stress-related genes induced by GABA have not been investigated in plants during a prolonged period of salt stress.

Reducing the expense of ear wax [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
Ear wax is one of the commonest presenting complaints both in Ear Nose and Throat surgery and in General Practice. The commonest treatment by far given for this condition is Arachis oil (Cerumol®).

Simulation model of wax diffusion and cleaning in printer belts [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
A belt that transports toner is one of the vital components of a printer. Since toner is fused to the paper at a high temperature, wax releases from the paper and penetrates into the rubber top layer of the belt.

Tumour–host interactions in Drosophila: mechanisms in the tumour micro‐ and macroenvironment

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This review examines how tumour–host crosstalk takes place at multiple levels of biological organisation, from local cell competition and immune crosstalk to organism‐wide metabolic and physiological collapse. Here, we integrate findings from Drosophila melanogaster studies that reveal conserved mechanisms through which tumours hijack host systems to ...

Identification of serum protein biomarkers for pre‐cancerous lesions associated with pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This work identified serum proteins associated with pancreatic epithelial neoplasms (PanINs) and early‐stage PDAC. Proteomics screens assessed genetically engineered mice with abundant PanINs, KPC mice (Lox‐STOP‐Lox‐KrasG12D/+ Lox‐STOP‐Lox‐Trp53R172H/+ Pdx1‐Cre) before PDAC development and also early‐stage PDAC patients (n = 31), compared to benign ...

Nuclear Morphology Measurements with Angle-Resolved Low Coherence Interferometry For Application To Cell Biology And Early Cancer Detection

open access: yesAnalytical Cellular Pathology, 2011
The study of intact, living cells using non-invasive optical spectroscopic methods offers the opportunity to assess cellular structure and organization in a way that is not possible with commonly used cell biology imaging techniques.
