Flow of Waxy Crude Oils

1997
The crystallization of wax in crude oils causes severe difficulties in pipelining. At low temperature the waxy crudes are non-Newtonian fluids and their flow properties are time-dependent showing “thyxotropic” phenomena. Starting from the experimental data, we have developed a mathematical model to describe the low temperature behavior of a waxy crude ...

Fast degradation and viscosity reduction of waxy crude oil and model waxy crude oil using Bacillus subtilis

Journal of Petroleum Science and Engineering, 2015
Abstract Microbial degradation of waxy crude oil provides efficient, economical and environment friendly solution to enhance the waxy crude oil production from mature brownfield crude oil reservoirs, addressing flow assurance challenges during transportation, and on-shore and off-shore oil-spill remedies.

The Rheology of Waxy Crude Oils - an Overview

1990
The presentation summarizes the work conducted in the Department of Chemical Engineering at the Unviersity of Melbourne on the flow characteristics of waxy crude oils. The topic is introduced by describing a progression which occurred from an extensive consulting programme on operation and design of an 1800 km pipeline to involvement with ICI Research ...

Offshore Pipeline Transport of Waxy Crude Oils

Offshore South East Asia Show, 1986
ABSTRACT Pipeline transport of waxy crude oils can be performed effectively, both from technical and economic standpoints, through adequate system designs. Such pipeline designs must consider safety aspects, system integrity, ease of installation, and potential operating and maintenance problems.

Bacteria consortia enhanced hydrocarbon degradation of waxy crude oil

Archives of Microbiology, 2022
Waxy crude oil is a problem to the oil and gas industry because wax deposition in pipelines reduces the quality of the crude oil. Currently, the industry uses chemicals to solve the problem but it is not environmentally friendly. As an alternative, the biodegradation approach is one of the options.

Diachronic viscosity increase in waxy crude oils

Journal of Petroleum Science and Engineering, 2004
Abstract During the study of paraffin wax deposition from crude oil in flow lines, it was observed that after exposure to air the viscosity of the oil increased continuously with time. The cause of this diachronic viscosity change has been investigated and evidence is presented to show that, for the crude oil used in this study, it is primarily due ...

Flow Assurance Study for Waxy Crude Oils

Energy & Fuels, 2011
In subsea environments, wax-phase separation, deposition, and gelling constitute an important concern in production operation/activities. Understanding the crude oil wax-phase behavior can help to avoid the high costs resulting from production reduction or stoppage in the field operations to mitigate these effects.

Pipelining characteristics of Daqing waxy crude oil

Journal of Central South University of Technology, 2007
Compared with pipelining Newtonian fluid, the pipelining characteristics of the waxy crude pipeline are sensitive to the complicated rheological properties. When the temperature is lower than the wax appearance temperature(WAT), the waxy crude oil has complicated non-Newtonian flow characteristics that are related to shear and thermal history.
