Geometric phases arising from strong measurements of weak values

open access: yesNew Journal of Physics
Geometric phases and weak values (WVs) are two fundamental concepts that were originally introduced in the realm of quantum mechanics. In the course of time, it became clear that the two concepts apply in both the quantum domain and the classical domain.

Weak values and weak coupling maximizing the output of weak measurements [PDF]

open access: yesAnnals of Physics, 2014
In a weak measurement, the average output $\langle o\rangle$ of a probe that measures an observable $\hat{A}$ of a quantum system undergoing both a preparation in a state $ρ_i$ and a postselection in a state $E_\mathrm{f}$ is, to a good approximation, a function of the weak value $A_w=\mathrm{Tr} [E_f \hat{A} ρ_i]/\mathrm{Tr}[E_fρ_i]$, a complex number.

Raman‐based label‐free microscopic analysis of the pancreas in living zebrafish larvae

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Forward stimulated Raman scattering (F‐SRS) and epi coherent anti‐Stokes Raman scattering (E‐CARS) allow label‐free discrimination of distinct subcellular structures in the pancreas of living zebrafish larvae. Given the straightforward applicability, we anticipate broad implementation of Raman microscopy in other organs and across various biomedical ...

Unifying attoclock and Larmor measurements through position-resolved weak values

open access: yesCommunications Physics
The measurement of tunneling times in strong-field ionization has been the topic of much controversy in recent years, with the attoclock and Larmor clock being two of the main contenders for correctly reproducing these times.

Experimental realization of post-selected weak measurements on an NMR quantum processor

open access: yesNew Journal of Physics, 2014
The ability to post-select the outcomes of an experiment is a useful theoretical concept and experimental tool. In the context of weak measurements, post-selection can lead to surprising results such as complex weak values outside the range of ...

dUTPase is essential in zebrafish development and possesses several single‐nucleotide variants with pronounced structural and functional consequences

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
dUTPases are involved in balancing the appropriate nucleotide pools. We showed that dUTPase is essential for normal development in zebrafish. The different zebrafish genomes contain several single‐nucleotide variations (SNPs) of the dut gene. One of the dUTPase variants displayed drastically lower protein stability and catalytic efficiency as compared ...

Stress measurements in the weak layer during snow stability tests

open access: yesAnnals of Glaciology
The snow compression test is a snow stability test where an isolated column of snow is progressively loaded by tapping on it to induce failure in a possible weak layer.

A Characterization of the Weak Convergence of Measures

open access: yesThe Annals of Mathematical Statistics, 1961
In this paper we shall investigate the so-called weak convergence of measures. Although the origin of the concept of the weak convergence of measures is a probabilistic one, the concept itself is purely measure-theoretical, and should be, therefore, treated by measure-theoretical methods.

Polarization‐resolved femtosecond Vis/IR spectroscopy tailored for resolving weak signals in biological samples using minimal sample volume

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Unique biological samples, such as site‐specific mutant proteins, are available only in limited quantities. Here, we present a polarization‐resolved transient infrared spectroscopy setup with referencing to improve signal‐to‐noise tailored towards tracing small signals. We provide an overview of characterizing the excitation conditions for polarization‐

Meta‐analysis fails to show any correlation between protein abundance and ubiquitination changes

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
We analyzed over 50 published proteomics datasets to explore the relationship between protein levels and ubiquitination changes across multiple experimental conditions and biological systems. Although ubiquitination is often associated with protein degradation, our analysis shows that changes in ubiquitination do not globally correlate with changes in ...
