Research status of rare earth oxides used in Al2O3 wear-resistant ceramics

open access: yes矿业科学学报
Rare earth oxides mainly exist in nature in the form of minerals. Doping rare earth oxides into Al2O3 ceramics can affect their wear resistance. In order to broaden the application scope of rare earth oxides, this paper summarizes the current status of ...

Effect of pouring method on wear resistance of WCp/Fe composites

open access: yesJournal of Hebei University of Science and Technology, 2020
In order to find a more suitable wear-resistant material forming method for current industrial applications, WCp/Fe composites were prepared by the lost foam casting process, and the effects of the pouring method on the hardness and wear resistance of ...

Performance Analysis of Abradable Coating Systems for Aircraft Gas Turbines

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Three CoNiCrAlY/YSZ/MgAl2O4 abradable liner configurations on a nickel‐superalloy are evaluated by thermal‐gradient cycling and incursion tests. Laser ablation of the bondcoat and/or Y2O3‐stabilized ZrO2 (YSZ) intermediate layer increases mechanical interlocking and bonding for thick topcoats.

High‐Temperature Nanoindentation of Metals: Assessing Thermal Drift, Frame Compliance, and Chemical Composition Effects on the Reported Mechanical Properties

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Do not let thermal drift and instrument artifacts deceive high‐temperature nanoindentation results. We compare classical Oliver–Pharr and automatic image recognition analyses across steels and a Ni alloy to quantify these effects. Accounting for artifacts reveals systematic softening with temperature, while Cr and Ni additions boost resistance ...

Abrasive wear with particular reference to digger teeth [PDF]

open access: yes, 1987
This thesis was submitted for the degree of Doctor of Philosophy and was awarded by Brunel University.Abrasive wear occurs when a contact associated with stress between a metal surface and a herd particle (frequently of mineral origin) leads to ...

Exploring the hardness-independent wear behavior of typical wear-resistant materials under dynamic and static conditions

open access: yesJournal of Materials Research and Technology
In this study, three types of wear-resistant materials including high-chromium cast iron (HCCI), medium-chromium cast steel (MCCS), and low-chromium cast steel (LCCS), with similar macroscopic hardness but distinct microstructures and impact toughness ...

Current Status and Challenges in Data Collection for Aerospace Coatings Deposited by Plasma Spraying

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
An innovative approach has been integrated into the GRENAT project to optimize plasma spraying and coating performance. Raw materials are accelerated and melted in the plasma generated by torches, creating coatings. Monitoring sensors collect process data which are combined with ex situ characterization data.

Electrochemical Behavior of Flame‐Sprayed Sc‐Doped AlCoCrFeMo High‐Entropy Alloy Coatings in 3.5% Sodium Chloride Solution

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Scandium (Sc)‐doped AlCoCrFeMo HEA coatings are fabricated via flame spraying with 0.1, 0.3, and 0.5 wt% Sc additions. Among these, the HEA‐Sc0.3 coating exhibits the highest corrosion resistance, indicated by a more positive corrosion potential and lower current density.
