Assessment of web post buckling resistance in steel-concrete composite cellular beams

Thin-Walled Structures, 2021
Abstract This paper aims to investigate the ultimate strength of steel-concrete composite cellular beams, considering the web post buckling. The numerical model is calibrated via experimental tests consolidated in the literature by geometrical non-linear analyses. Asymmetric and symmetric sections are investigated.

Web-post buckling of bolted castellated steel beam with octagonal web openings

Journal of Constructional Steel Research, 2020
Abstract This paper presented numerical investigations on the behavior of a Bolted Castellated Steel Beam (BCSB) with octagonal web openings. Instead of welding the upper and the lower Tee-sections of a Castellated Steel Beam (CSB) together in the factory, they were connected using high strength bolts at the construction site. Thus, the upper and the

Design procedure for the web-post buckling of steel cellular beams

Journal of Constructional Steel Research, 2018
Abstract This research presents a study about the structural behavior of steel cellular beams, focused on the web-post buckling. The main objective of this study is to propose a new formulation to calculate the shear resistance of cellular beams for this phenomenon, based on laboratory tests and numerical analysis.

Novel design equations for shear strength of local web-post buckling in cellular beams

Thin-Walled Structures, 2014
To complement available design methods, this study develops a practical and economical approach to estimate shear strength of non-composite symmetric and asymmetric cellular beams, based on failure by local web-post buckling. Influence of geometric web-post parameters on the buckling strength and mechanism, such as section size, opening depth ratio ...

Pre-buckling and post-buckling failure at web-flange junction of pultruded GFRP beams

Materials and Structures, 2012
Separation at the web-flange junction is a common failure mode of pultruded glass fiber-reinforced (GFRP) beams subjected to bending. The causes of this separation appear to depend on the presence of lateral supports to prevent lateral buckling. To clarify the driving mechanisms, four-point bending experiments were carried out on pultruded GFRP girders.

Numerical and analytical study of intermediate web‐post buckling

ce/papers, 2021
AbstractIn the case of two adjacent large web openings, the beam may fail by the plastification or the buckling of the intermediate web part known as the web‐post failure. Various analytical approaches have been developed to define the failure load of the intermediate web‐post which can be a key point in the design of beams with web openings.

Simplified design method for stiffened cellular beams against web‐post buckling

ce/papers, 2021
AbstractWeb‐post buckling next to Vierendeel effect, is one of the main failure modes for cellular beams. Several solutions are available to avoid web‐post buckling, such as ring stiffener or infill opening. A new cost‐effective solution is to weld a vertical plate stiffener on the web‐post.

Post-buckling Strength of Welded Steel I-Girders with Corrugated Webs

International Journal of Steel Structures, 2021
Steel I-section-plate girders with corrugated webs have been used worldwide as they provide more stability and light beam features in practical design. It is known from previous investigations that due to having numerous favourable properties, the corrugated-web beams have been used in different areas of structural engineering.
