Revivals of Coherence in Chaotic Atom-Optics Billiards
We investigate the coherence properties of thermal atoms confined in optical dipole traps where the underlying classical dynamics is chaotic. A perturbative expression derived for the coherence of the echo scheme of [Andersen et. al., Phys. Rev. Lett. 90,

A Technique for Making Nuclear Fusion in Solids [PDF]
A technique is described for making nuclear fusion at room temperature by compressing a powder mixture comprising a deuteride and catalytic material. The result is explosive beyond known chemical reaction for the materials.

Assessment of the Spectral Volume Method on inviscid and viscous flows [PDF]
The compact high-order "Spectral Volume Method" designed for conservation laws on unstructured grids is presented. Its spectral reconstruction is exposed briefly and its applications to the Euler equations are presented through several test cases to ...

Wedge splitting test of wood for fracture parameters estimation of Norway Spruce
Abstract Crack evolution in wood from Norway Spruce during mode I wedge splitting tests was measured using a Digital Image Correlation (DIC) system. The resulting series of deformation fields were post-processed in order to obtain kinematically based crack tip location histories throughout the loading procedure, by a purposely made algorithm.

Mesoscopic study on historic masonry
This paper presents a comprehensive approach to the evaluation of macroscopic material parameters for natural stone and quarry masonry. To that end, a reliable non-linear material model on a meso-scale is developed to cover the random arrangement of ...

Numerical Simulations of a Wedge Splitting Test for High-strength Concrete
AbstractThe paper presents results of wedge splitting tests (WST) for high-strength concrete performed in a laboratory and an attempt to develop a numerical model of the test. Characteristics of high-strength concretes as well as the experimental setup of WST are presented.

Scenario for Ultrarelativistic Nuclear Collisions: Space--Time Picture of Quantum Fluctuations and the Birth of QGP [PDF]
We study the dynamics of quantum fluctuations which take place at the earliest stage of high-energy processes and the conditions under which the data from e-p deep-inelastic scattering may serve as an input for computing the initial data for heavy-ion ...

Asymmetric creep modeling of common refractory ceramics with high temperature wedge splitting test
Abstract Common refractory ceramics display significant asymmetric creep behavior at high temperatures under uniaxial loading conditions. This study introduces an advanced asymmetric creep model based on the stress path in the hydrostatic pressure–von Mises stress diagram.
