GLoN: A Global–Local Framework for Global Agricultural Nitrogen Loss Prediction

open access: yesModern Agriculture, Volume 4, Issue 2, December 2026.
Accurate global prediction of agricultural nitrogen loss is hindered by imbalanced, heterogeneous data and a ‘one‐size‐fits‐all’ assumption that ignores regional variation. We propose GLoN (Global–Local Nitrogen Prediction), which builds region‐specific models with local variables and synthesises them into a weighted global model.

Utilizing high‐throughput phenotyping to identify metribuzin tolerance in winter wheat

open access: yesThe Plant Phenome Journal, Volume 9, Issue 1, December 2026.
Abstract Plant breeders and weed scientists address weed management collaboratively by selecting for herbicide tolerance in breeding programs. Metribuzin, a Group 5 PSII‐inhibiting herbicide, is labeled for use in wheat (Triticum aestivum L.). However, application to currently available lines results in frequent, variable, and unpredictable crop injury.

Unmanned aerial vehicle–based spatiotemporal phenotyping and growth modeling for forecasting potato yield

open access: yesThe Plant Phenome Journal, Volume 9, Issue 1, December 2026.
Abstract Monitoring spatial variations in plant growth and forecasting yield before harvest provides valuable insights for optimizing agronomic decision‐making in potato (Solanum tuberosum L.) cultivation. Although unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV)‐based remote sensing has recently enabled the development of tuber fresh weight (TW) estimation models, their

Automatic measurement of rice tiller angle from unmanned aerial vehicle images

open access: yesThe Plant Phenome Journal, Volume 9, Issue 1, December 2026.
Abstract Rice (Oryza sativa L.) tiller angle is an important trait that influences plant architecture, canopy light interception, and yield potential. In this study, we proposed a deep learning‐based pipeline for automated measurement of rice tiller angle and plant base width using unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) imagery.

Integrating cover crops to enhance abaca (Musa textilis Nee) production in Leyte, East‐Central Philippines

open access: yesAgrosystems, Geosciences &Environment, Volume 9, Issue 3, September 2026.
Abstract Abaca (Musa textilis Nee) is a fiber crop, closely related to banana (Musa sp.). However, it requires 15–18 months from transplanting to first harvest, leaving the soil between plants vulnerable to erosion or weed infestation. Integrating cover crops into abaca plantations may help mitigate these issues.

Agronomic performance of barley (Hordeum vulgare L.) accessions in Tigray, Northern Ethiopia

open access: yesAgrosystems, Geosciences &Environment, Volume 9, Issue 3, September 2026.
Abstract Barley (Hordeum vulgare L.) is used in numerous traditional foods: injera, dabo, kolo, tihlo, besso, and in making local drinks. Nevertheless, there are not many comprehensive reports on the availability of best performing accessions of this primary grain crop.
