Multi‐level fatigue reliability assessment of reinforced concrete railway bridges

open access: yesStructural Concrete, EarlyView.
Abstract This paper presents a multi‐level reliability framework for assessing the fatigue life of reinforced concrete (RC) railway trough bridges subjected to cyclic loading. The framework incorporates increasing levels of analytical complexity and real‐world data in four steps. First, an analytical model applies S–N curves and the Palmgren–Miner rule

Optimal designs for dose finding experiments in toxicity studies [PDF]

open access: yes
We construct optimal designs for estimating fetal malformation rate, prenatal death rate and an overall toxicity index in a toxicology study under a broad range of model assumptions.

Rapid scavenging of avian carcasses in the desert Southwest: Implications for mortality surveys not associated with infrastructure

open access: yesWildlife Society Bulletin, EarlyView.
We placed 214 avian carcasses in a desert environment at locations not associated with infrastructure and monitored their removal by scavengers using camera traps. We found that 211 of the 214 carcasses were scavenged and median persistence time was 1.53 days. None of the predictor variables were informative of carcass persistence times.

Optimal Scheduling of Data Centre Integrated Energy Systems Considering Electric‐Thermal Demand Response Under Icing Uncertainty

open access: yesEnergy Internet, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Extreme icing disasters increasingly undermine the reliability of integrated power and heat networks by causing line outages, supply shortages and sharp thermal load fluctuations. To address these challenges, this paper proposes a comprehensive optimisation framework that exploits the spatiotemporal flexibility of data centres for coordinated ...

Weibull Distribution for Estimating the Parameters

open access: yes, 2011
Today, most electrical energy is generated by burning huge fossil fuels and special weather conditions such as acid rain and snow, climate change, urban smog, regional haze, several tornados, etc., have happened around the whole world. It is now clear that the installation of a number of wind turbine generators can effectively reduce environmental ...

Effect of Unit Cell Topology on Dielectric Properties of Periodic Lattice Materials Used for Functionally Graded Insulation

open access: yesHigh Voltage, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Periodic lattice material (PLM) is an innovative material system capable of rapidly and efficiently constructing functionally graded materials (FGMs). Among various PLM structures, triply periodic minimal surfaces (TPMS) exhibit numerous advantages, making TPMS‐based lattice materials a potential candidate to electrical FGMs.

Weibull Distribution Parameter Estimation Using Spreadsheets

open access: yes, 2023
A spreadsheet is developed for modeling wind distribution through the Weibull distribution. Two parametes of the Weibull distribution are sufficient for the modeling. The Excel macro has been used to determine these parameters. The parameters are determined by six methods: graphical method (GM), maximum likelihood method (MLM), method of moments (MM ...

About the Ageing‐Induced Modifications of Physical‐Chemical and Electrical Properties of Polyimide (PMDA‐ODA) Under Gamma Radiation and High Temperatures

open access: yesHigh Voltage, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT This study investigates the effects of radiation‐induced ageing on the physical, chemical, mechanical and electrical properties of Poly[4,4′‐oxydiphenylene‐ pyromellitimide] (PMDA‐ODA) polyimide, a high‐performance insulation material widely used in aerospace applications.
