New Developments in Weigh in Motion

SAE Technical Paper Series, 1985
<div class="htmlview paragraph">This paper examines some recent developments in the field of weighing in motion (WIM). It is divided into two sections covering systems currently in use today and new or future developments. Systems examined under the first section include the following alternative highway speed WIM methodologies: <ol class ...

In-pavement wireless weigh-in-motion

Proceedings of the 12th international conference on Information processing in sensor networks, 2013
Truck weight data is used in many areas of transportation such as weight enforcement and pavement condition assessment. This paper describes a wireless sensor network (WSN) that estimates the weight of moving vehicles from pavement vibrations caused by vehicular motion.

Fibre-optic weigh-in-motion sensor

Sensors and Actuators A: Physical, 1994
This paper presents a fibre-optic sensor to measure weight in motion based on a multiple fibre-optic interferometer. The differential phase between the arms of the interferometer produced by the pressure is compensated by a feedback system, thus converting pressure into voltage.

Vehicle based weigh-in-motion system

International Journal of Heavy Vehicle Systems, 2000
Numerous approaches to the vehicle-based measurement of dynamic wheel loads have been proposed including axle mounted bending strain gauges, axle mounted shear strain gauges, tyre displacement, and Lyre pressure. Although these systems have met with various levels of success, the search for a low cost vehicle mounted system for dynamic wheel force ...

Traffic load models and weigh-in-motion data

1999
During the evaluation of an existing bridge, measurements at the site can be used to update the traffic load model. Measurements can be made with either temporary Weigh-In-Motion (WIM) sensors installed on the road surface or with strain gauges installed on the structure.

Current Research Efforts in Weighing In Motion

SAE Technical Paper Series, 1986
<div class="htmlview paragraph">Weighing-In-Motion is the term for weighing vehicles at normal traffic speeds. The first developments were made in the United States about 30 years ago. In the late nineteen fifties, the European countries England, France, and Germany started to weigh road vehicles at normal traffic speeds since there was a need ...

Dynamic Calibration of a Weigh in Motion System

2018 Joint Rail Conference, 2018
The dynamic nature of a train in operation is caused by variables in rail condition, track smoothness, wheel defects, truck hunting and skewing, and coupler effects. These conditions can each cause perturbations that may affect the accuracy of the weight measured by a Weigh In Motion (WIM) system.

Designing a Cloud-native Weigh-In-Motion

2019 Open Innovations (OI), 2019
This paper discusses the system architecture of a cloud-native Weigh-In-Motion (WIM) system prototype. The prototype WIM system was developed to ingest Vehicular Telematics (VT) data from several Internet of Vehicles (IoV). It is a necessity to build a cloud-native system to serve VT data from IoV devices.

An overview of research on weigh-in-motion system

Fifth World Congress on Intelligent Control and Automation (IEEE Cat. No.04EX788), 2004
This paper provides an overview of research on weigh-in-motion system. It first talks about the problem the overweight causes in the reservation of the roads, in the transportation and traffic safety. Then the paper analyzes the cause of this problem and gives a brief introduction on the current relevant research carried out abroad.
