Lagrange Distributions of the Second Kind and Weighted Distributions

SIAM Journal on Applied Mathematics, 1983
Starting with the second Lagrange expansion, with $f( z )$ and $g( z )$ as two probability generating functions defined on nonnegative integers such that $g( 0 ) \ne 0$, we define and study a new class of discrete probability distributions called the Lagrange distributions of the second kind.

Weighted Lagrange Distributions and Their Characterizations

SIAM Journal on Applied Mathematics, 1987
The characterization of weighted Lagrange distributions recently introduced by the author and \textit{B. R. Rao}, ibid. 43, 302-313 (1983; Zbl 0509.60018) is analyzed by the properties of conditional distributions.

Positivity of Weighted Wigner Distributions

SIAM Journal on Mathematical Analysis, 1981
In [4] a number of inequalities involving Wigner distributions and their moments are given. The present paper gives theorems on the positivity of weighted Wigner distributions, where the weight function is assumed to be radially symmetric. The main tool is a formula expressing weighted Wigner distributions of a function in terms of its Hermite ...

The distribution of eutherian body weights

Oecologia, 1987
The frequency distributions of eutherian body weights given by Caughley and Krebs (1983) are here corrected for an algebraic error in that publication. The distributions for hervibores and omnivores combined and for carnivores and insectivores combined are bimodal, the trough for the first group lying between 25 and 35 kg and for the second between 0.1

ON BOUNDS AND APPROXIMATING WEIGHTED DISTRIBUTIONS BY EXPONENTIAL DISTRIBUTIONS

Probability in the Engineering and Informational Sciences, 2006
In this article, we obtain error bounds for exponential approximations to the classes of weighted residual and equilibrium lifetime distributions with monotone weight functions. These bounds are obtained for the class of distributions with increasing (decreasing) hazard rate and mean residual life functions.

Weighted Distributional Lα Estimates

2010
The fortune of ordinary least squares is built on the myth that the disturbances are normally distributed. For example, when the shape of the distribution is unknown because too few measurements have been taken, there may then be a temptation to assume that a normal distribution is applicable.

A Gap in GRM Code Weight Distributions

Designs, Codes and Cryptography, 2000
The weight distribution of generalized Reed-Muller (GRM) codes is open, except for some particular parameters. This paper contributes to the research on this problem by proving results on weights that cannot occur in GRM codes. Every \([n,k,d]\) GRM code has words of weight 0, \(d\), and \(n\), and obviously no words of weight between 0 and \(d\). Let \

Molecular Weights and Molecular-Weight Distributions

1977
In synthesizing macromolecules in vitro and in vivo, monodisperse macromolecules (i.e., those in which every molecule has the same molecular weight) only occur under specific mechanistic conditions. The overwhelming majority of reactions proceed more or less randomly, and the resulting macromolecular substance shows a more or less broad molecular ...
