Pairing Spruce Budworm Control and Minimal Understory Perturbations: Effects of Btk Spraying Frequency in Boreal Forests

open access: yesEcology and Evolution, Volume 16, Issue 3, March 2026.
Spruce budworm epidemic induces tree mortality and modifies understory communities. Could aerial spraying of Btk reduce perturbations in understory communities? Biannual Btk spraying could prevent both wood loss and understory degradation. ABSTRACT Since 1985, more than 10 million hectares of Canadian forests have been treated against spruce budworm ...

Pleistocene Forest Stability Predicts Patterns of Frog Diversity in Central Africa

open access: yesEcology and Evolution, Volume 16, Issue 3, March 2026.
Using high‐resolution paleoclimate reconstructions, we quantified habitat stability for Central African rainforests across 257 time slices since the early Pleistocene. Stacked projections of forest‐dependent frog niches identify both a large, continuous refugium and smaller, highly stable forest blocks embedded within today's forest cover.

Signatures of the Anthropocene: Population Genomic Structure Detected in Pennsylvania Coyotes

open access: yesEcology and Evolution, Volume 16, Issue 3, March 2026.
Coyotes rapidly expanded across eastern North America and are highly dispersive ecological generalists, leading prior studies to report little spatial genetic structure. Using genome‐wide data from 1199 coyotes sampled over a decade in the northeastern United States, we detected subtle but significant population structure, with two weakly clinal ...

Flexible ionic pressure sensors: From migration‐electronic mechanisms to emerging iontronic paradigms

open access: yesInfoMat, Volume 8, Issue 3, March 2026.
Mechanisms, materials, structures, and applications of the FIPSs. Abstract Flexible ionic pressure sensors (FIPS) have emerged as promising candidates for bridging the gap between electronics and biologically compatible interfaces. Unlike previous reviews, which focused primarily on materials or devices, this review presents a classification of FIPS ...
