Distortion Analysis of Welded Stiffeners

Journal of Ship Production, 2001
This paper presents a welding distortion analysis approach for T-stiffeners with a particular emphasis on welding-induced buckling instabilities. Two-dimensional thermomechanical welding process simulations are performed to determine the residual stress and angular distortion.

3D-Scanning for Weld Distortion Measuring

2006 IEEE Instrumentation and Measurement Technology Conference Proceedings, 2006
Optical three dimensional scanning for weld distortion measurements have been performed for validation, inspection, general visualization and documentation of a robotized welding process. The planning, preparing and processing of the weld is done in a simulation-based concept where Computer Aided Robotics software simulations are integrated with Finite

Efficient welding distortion analysis method for large welded structures

Journal of Materials Processing Technology, 2018
Abstract An efficient approach to predicting the welding angular distortion of large structures by using scalar input variables with no restriction on the mesh size near the welding region is proposed. To transform the input variables according to the mesh size, the explicit form of the force matrix is derived based on finite element theory.

Computationally efficient welding distortion simulation techniques

Modelling and Simulation in Materials Science and Engineering, 2005
The study's aim is to improve the applicability of finite element analysis to the prediction of welding distortions, with particular emphasis on out-of-plane deformations. Robust simulation strategies are established which take account of material properties and joint configurations, but are at the same time computationally efficient.

Distortion Control during Welding

2014
The local material expansion and contraction involved in welding result in permanent deformations or instability i.e., welding distortion. Considerable efforts have been made in controlling welding distortion prior to, during or after welding. Thermal Tensioning (TT) describes a group of in-situ methods to control welding distortion.
