First-Principles Prediction of Surface Wetting [PDF]

open access: yesLangmuir, 2020
We have developed a method for predicting the solvation contribution to solid-liquid interfacial tension (IFT) based on density functional theory and the implicit solvent model COSMO-RS. Our method can be used to predict wetting behavior for a solid surface in contact with two liquids.

Wettability versus roughness of engineering surfaces [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
Wetting of real engineering surfaces occurs in many industrial applications (liquid coating, lubrication, printing, painting, ...). Forced and natural wetting can be beneficial in many cases, providing lubrication and therefore reducing friction and wear.

Probing surface wetting across multiple force, length and time scales

open access: yesCommunications Physics, 2023
Surface wetting is a multiscale phenomenon where properties at the macroscale are determined by features at much smaller length scales, such as nanoscale surface topographies.

Superhydrophobic surfaces: a model approach to predict contact angle and surface energy of soil particles [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
Wettability of soil affects a wide variety of processes including infiltration, preferential flow and surface runoff. The problem of determining contact angles and surface energy of powders, such as soil particles, remains unsolved.

Investigation of the Influence of Electrode Surface Structures on Wettability after Electrolyte Filling Based on Experiments and a Lattice Boltzmann Simulation

open access: yesEnergies, 2023
The filling of the electrolyte and the subsequent wetting of the electrodes is a quality-critical and time-intensive process in manufacturing of lithium-ion batteries.

The effect of substrate roughness on air entrainment in dip coating [PDF]

open access: yes, 2004
YesDynamic wetting failure was observed in the simple dip coating flow with a series of substrates, which had a rough side and a comparatively smoother side.

Gas-Wetting Alteration by Fluorochemicals and Its Application for Enhancing Gas Recovery in Gas-Condensate Reservoirs: A Review

open access: yesEnergies, 2020
Gas-wetting alteration is a versatile and effective approach for alleviating liquid-blockage that occurs when the wellbore pressure of a gas-condensate reservoir drops below the dew point. Fluorochemicals are of growing interest in gas-wetting alteration
