Synthesis of porous ceramic with well-developed mullite whiskers in system of Al2O3-Kaolin-MoO3

open access: yesJournal of Materials Research and Technology, 2021
Porous ceramics have the advantages of low density, low thermal conductivity, and excellent mechanical properties. One of the scalable methods for manufacturing porous ceramics is the replica method, which provides the advantage of high porosity and the ...

352 nm ultraviolet emission from high-quality crystalline AlN whiskers

open access: yes, 2010
High-quality, crystalline AlN whiskers with large yield have been synthesized through the direct nitridation of Al vapor at high temperature. The AlN whiskers exhibited a strong and uniform ultraviolet emission at approximately 352 nm, which is notably ...

Electrical characterization of thermal vacuum grown submicron-thick Sn whiskers

open access: yesMaterials & Design
Submicron-thick Sn whiskers were electrically characterized. The whiskers were grown from a 500 nm thick Sn layer on a Cu substrate, which was kept in a thermal vacuum chamber (50 °C and 8.3 × 10−6mbar for 1000 h) to simulate the space circumstances ...

Simplicial Complexes of Whisker Type [PDF]

open access: yesThe Electronic Journal of Combinatorics, 2015
Let $I\subset K[x_1,\ldots,x_n]$ be  a zero-dimensional monomial ideal, and $\Delta(I)$ be the simplicial complex whose Stanley--Reisner ideal is the polarization of $I$. It follows from a result of Soleyman Jahan that $\Delta(I)$ is shellable. We give a new short proof of this fact by providing an explicit shelling. Moreover, we show that  $\Delta(I)$

Hyperosmotic stress induces PARP1‐mediated HPF1‐dependent mono(ADP‐ribosyl)ation

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Sorbitol‐induced hyperosmotic stress rapidly induces reversible mono(ADP‐ribosyl)ation (MARylation) on PARP1 without the signs of genotoxic signaling. We show that PARP1 autoMARylation is HPF1 dependent and forms hydroxylamine‐resistant O‐glycosidic linkages.

Plastic Deformation of Copper and Iron Whiskers [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
application/pdfPlastic behaviors of copper and iron whiskers prepared by the hydrogen reduction of metal halides have been investigated by using an Instron-type tensile machine.

Number and length of whiskers in dormice

open access: yes, 2022
Whiskers (vibrissae) are slender, curved and tapered hairs present in most mammals, which transmit vibrotactile information. In contrast to pelage hair, whiskers are longer and thicker and they possess highly innervated follicles. So called 'whisking', a

The microbiome in human skin aging

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Age‐related skin changes encompass the well‐known visible phenotypic alterations, together with microbiome dysbiosis and a series of molecular aging hallmarks. These hallmarks characterize not only a fully stablished aged phenotype but also the skin aging process itself.

Purkinje cells translate subjective salience into readiness to act and choice performance

open access: yesCell Reports, 2021
Summary: The brain selectively allocates attention from a continuous stream of sensory input. This process is typically attributed to computations in distinct regions of the forebrain and midbrain.

Divergent Movement of Adjacent Whiskers

open access: yes, 2002
The current view of whisker movement is that ∼25 whiskers on each side of the face move in synchrony. To determine whether whiskers are constrained to move together, we trained rats to use two whiskers on the same side of the face in simple behavioral ...
