LUNAR is a liver‐specific long noncoding RNA (lncRNA) that is highly expressed in normal liver but becomes epigenetically silenced in hepatocellular carcinoma through promoter hypermethylation. Loss of LUNAR is associated with NOTCH activation, epithelial–mesenchymal transition, and metastasis, whereas restoring LUNAR restrains metastatic progression ...

Flow-sensing mechanisms and biomimetic potential of seal whiskers [PDF]
Seals can accurately track fish trails as far as 180 m away solely using ultrasensitive whiskers. A high-aspect-ratio bluff body vibrates due to its shedding vortices when the oncoming flow is present, or it is being towed in still water.

Gut microbiota alterations in patients with non‐small‐cell lung cancer undergoing chemoradiotherapy
We investigated the impact of concurrent chemoradiotherapy (CRT) on the gut microbiota in patients with locally advanced non‐small‐cell lung cancer. Overall gut microbiota composition remained largely stable throughout CRT while antibiotic exposure may influence microbial diversity.

Optimizing photoactivation of PA‐mCherry for optical pooled CRISPR screens
Photoactivatable PA‐mCherry finds widespread use to optically tag individual cells. However, confocal 405 nm UV laser‐scanning (normal scan) is much less efficient than widefield UV illumination, limiting the use of PA‐mCherry on confocal instruments. We remedy this limitation by reporting that rapid and repeated confocal scanning with a low‐intensity,

Tensile testing of SiC whiskers [PDF]
The room temperature tensile mechanical properties of SiC whiskers have been examined using a micro-tensile-test apparatus. SiC whiskers exhibit an average tensile strength of 8.4 GPa for a 5 mm tested length, and an average elastic modulus of 581 GPa ...

Drugs previously repurposed to target blood cancers reduced neuroblastoma and glioblastoma cell growth and viability. However, their levels of anticancer activity were different and their clinical application may be problematic due to side effects at effective doses.

Wonders of Harbor and Grey Seal Whiskers: Morphology, Natural Frequencies, and 3D Modeling
Seals can track fish using highly sensitive whiskers; however, the extent to which their morphologically diverse whiskers respond to hydrodynamic signals across frequencies remains unexplored.
