Synthesis of θ-Al2O3 Whiskers with Twins

open access: yes, 2021
In this work, θ-Al2O3 whiskers with twins were successfully fabricated by a hydrothermal method followed by annealing at 1000 °C in argon atmosphere using Al2(SO4)3·18H2O, CO(NH2)2 and PEG2000 as initial materials.

Circular RNA expression landscapes in myelodysplastic neoplasms: Associations with mutational signatures and disease progression

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
In this explorative study, the abundance of circular RNA molecules in bone marrow stem cells was found to be elevated in patients with high‐risk myelodysplastic neoplasms, and to be associated with an increased risk of progression to acute myeloid leukemia.

Developmental programmes drive cellular plasticity, disease progression and therapy resistance in lung adenocarcinoma

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This study shows that lung adenocarcinomas exploit developmental branching morphogenesis to acquire a therapy resistant basal‐like tumour cell state. This process was found to be regulated by combined TP53 loss‐of‐function and type‐I interferon signalling, identifying a novel axis for biomarker and therapeutic target discovery.

Crystal Strengths at Micro- and Nano-Scale Dimensions

open access: yesCrystals, 2020
Higher strength levels, achieved for dimensionally-smaller micro- and nano-scale materials or material components, such as MEMS devices, are an important enabler of a broad range of present-day engineering devices and structures. Beyond such applications,

Spatial and single‐nuclei transcriptomics reveals idiosyncratic and generic patterns in papillary and anaplastic thyroid cancers

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Matched spatial transcriptomics and single‐nuclei RNA‐seq were generated for anaplastic and BRAFV600E papillary thyroid cancers revealing generic and tumor‐specific states occurring in cancer cells and in the tumor microenvironment. In this context, cancer dedifferentiation mirrored organoid maturation through ordered thyroid marker gain/loss ...

In vitro and in silico modelling of ROS1‐positive non‐small cell lung cancer reveals fusion‐dependent tyrosine kinase inhibitor responses

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Drug resistance limits treatment success in a subset of lung cancers driven by ROS1 gene alterations. Using patient‐derived cells and computer simulations, we studied three key mutations and how they affect five targeted drugs. The mutations reduced drug effectiveness in different ways by altering protein structure and behavior.

Circulating microRNA signatures of cachexia and cancer in Canis familiaris as a comparative oncology model for human disease

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Circulating microRNAs as biomarkers of cachexia and sex‐specific cancer in senior dogs. In 25 client‐owned dogs, four circulating miRNAs (miR‐15a, miR‐15b, miR‐16, miR‐140) were downregulated in cachexia, with miR‐16 the strongest individual biomarker (AUC = 0.899).

Growth Mechanism of Helicoidal Nickel Whiskers [PDF]

open access: yes, 1968
Nickel whiskers obtained by reduction of the iodide of the metal can be classified into two categories:- - Rectilinear whiskers - Spiral whiskers Rectilinear whiskers without branches are obtained because one of the ...

Semiconductor whiskers for humidity sensors

open access: yesФізика і хімія твердого тіла, 2020
In present paper p-type GaPAs whiskers doped with Cu were obtained by VLS method in close bromine system. The whiskers have various morphologies and geometries: imperfect needle-like crystals, ribbons, perfect needle-like crystals and thin plates.

Microscopic Si whiskers

open access: yesMicroelectronic Engineering, 2011
Physical properties of microscopic silicon whiskers formed by reactive ion etching in chlorine plasma are reported in an attempt to clarify the formation mechanism and the origin of the observed optical and electrical phenomena. The silicon whiskers with diameters of well under 5nm exhibit strong photoluminescence (PL) both in visible and infrared ...
