Locking a microsphere whispering-gallery mode to a laser
We have locked a whispering-gallery resonance of a fused-silica microsphere to a frequency-scanning laser. The resonance frequency is modulated by axial compression of the microsphere, and phase-sensitive detection of the fiber-coupled optical throughput is used for locking.

Two‐Photon 3D Printing of Functional Microstructures Inside Living Cells
This study demonstrates 3D printing inside living cells by using two‐photon photo‐lithography. A bio‐compatible photoresist is injected into cells and selectively polymerized with a femtosecond laser, creating custom‐shaped intracellular structures with submicron resolution.

Laser Stabilized to a Fiber Interferometer With Close‐To‐Zero Temperature Sensitivity
A laser stabilized to a hollow‐core fibre interferometer is presented. The interferometer is designed to have near‐zero temperature phase‐sensitivity. Laser stabilized to this interferometer put in a non‐vacuum environment achieves ±550 kHz frequency variation over 100 h and an Allan deviation of 2 × 10−14τ, which is comparable to miniature ULE ...

Graded-index whispering gallery mode resonators [PDF]
Whispering gallery mode optical resonators which have spatially-graded refractive indices. In one implementation, the refractive index spatially increases with a distance from an exterior surface of such a resonator towards an interior of the resonator ...

Whispering gallery modes in open quantum billiards
The poles of the S-matrix and the wave functions of open 2D quantum billiards with convex boundary of different shape are calculated by the method of complex scaling. Two leads are attached to the cavities.

Whispering gallery mode resonators with J-aggregates
We have studied the optical properties of a hybrid system consisting of cyanine dye J-aggregates attached to a spherical microcavity. A periodic structure of narrow peaks was observed in the photoluminescence spectrum of the J-aggregates, arising from the coupling between the emission of J-aggregates and the whispering gallery modes (WGMs) of the ...

Fast Simulation of Wide‐Angle Coherent Diffractive Imaging
The propagation multi‐slice Fourier transform method is introduced as an accurate and efficient approach for describing light scattering for arbitrarily shaped objects. Its exceptional suitability for simulating coherent diffractive imaging of nanoparticles in the XUV and soft X‐ray range is demonstrated.

Electrodynamical Light Trapping Using Whispering-Gallery Resonances in Hyperbolic Cavities
We theoretically study spherical cavities composed of hyperbolic metamaterials with indefinite permittivity tensors. Such cavities are capable of electrodynamically confining fields with deep subwavelength cavity sizes.
