Ultra-thin curved visible microdisk lasers with three-dimensional whispering gallery modes

open access: yesNanophotonics, 2020
Microdisk lasers are important components in photonic integrated circuits (PICs), of which the whispering gallery modes (WGMs) are usually confined within a two-dimensional (2D) planar slab.

Recent Advances in Stimulated Brillouin Scattering in Integrated Photonics

open access: yesAdvanced Physics Research, EarlyView.
This review systematically surveys recent advances in stimulated Brillouin scattering (SBS) within integrated photonics. It begins by elucidating the fundamental mechanisms of stimulated coupling between photons and acoustic phonons in nanoscale waveguides, enhanced by the photoelastic and moving boundary effects.

Tunable Whispering Gallery Mode Resonators for Cavity Quantum Electrodynamics

open access: yes, 2005
We theoretically study the properties of highly prolate shaped dielectric microresonators. Such resonators sustain whispering gallery modes that exhibit two spatially well separated regions with enhanced field strength.

Controlling the Frequency-Temperature Sensitivity of a Cryogenic Sapphire Maser Frequency Standard by Manipulating Fe3+ Spins in the Sapphire Lattice

open access: yes, 2012
To create a stable signal from a cryogenic sapphire maser frequency standard, the frequency-temperature dependence of the supporting Whispering Gallery mode must be annulled.

Fiber-coupled erbium microlasers on a chip [PDF]

open access: yes, 2003
An erbium-doped, toroid-shaped microlaser fabricated on a silicon chip is described and characterized. Erbium-doped sol-gel films are applied to the surface of a silica toroidal microresonator to create the microcavity lasers.

Fluorene‐based blue emitters: On the path to electrically pumped organic lasers

open access: yesFlexMat, EarlyView.
Electrically pumped efficient operation remains unrealized, a major challenge in optoelectronics. Fluorene‐based blue‐emitting semiconductors are promising gain media, thanks to their structural tunability and favorable emission properties. This review summarizes recent advances, highlights their reliability and versatility in lasing, and outlines key ...

Whispering gallery resonator method for measurementspermittivity

open access: yesJournal of Telecommunications and Information Technology, 2002
The new method of measuring permittivity is described. The measurements are performed using whispering gallery mode open dielectric resonators. The accuracy is assured by applications of the mode matching method.

Highly efficient optical power transfer to whispering-gallery modes by use of a symmetrical dual-coupling configuration [PDF]

open access: yes, 2000
We report that greater than 99.8% optical power transfer to whispering-gallery modes was achieved in fused-silica microspheres by use of a dual-tapered-fiber coupling method.
