Microglial activation in white matter lesions and nonlesional white matter of ageing brains
Neuropathology and Applied Neurobiology, 2007White matter lesions (WML), a common feature in brain ageing, are classified as periventricular (PVL) or deep subcortical (DSCL), depending on their anatomical location. Microglial activation is implicated in a number of neurodegenerative diseases, but the microglial response in WML is poorly characterized and its role in pathogenesis unknown.

Wilson's disease with myoclonus and white matter lesions
Parkinsonism & Related Disorders, 2007White matter lesions (WML) and epilepsy have been occasionally seen in Wilson's disease. No cases of generalized myoclonus have been reported so far. We present a patient with psychiatric symptoms starting at age 16, followed by tremor, generalized dystonia and severe generalized myoclonus.

White Matter Lesions in Children and Adolescents With Migraine
Pediatric Neurology, 2013The etiology and clinical importance of white matter lesions in migraine remain poorly understood. To understand these issues more fully, we reviewed the brain magnetic resonance imaging scans of pediatric patients and assessed the relationships between white matter lesions, migraine type, patent foramen ovale, and right-to-left shunting. The magnetic ...

MRI white matter lesions in pediatric migraine
Cephalalgia, 2013Objectives: Studies have reported an association between migraine and white matter hyperintensities on T2-weighted brain magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) in adults. The aim of the present study was to evaluate white matter MRI brain findings in pediatric patients with migraine.

Disappearance of a white matter lesion in incontinentia pigmenti
Pediatric Neurology, 2000We report a 12-month-old Japanese female with incontinentia pigmenti, in whom magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) disclosed a small transient lesion in the white matter. After birth, she developed some vesicular skin eruptions that mainly involved the lower extremities.

Postinfectious Encephalitis with Multifocal White Matter Lesions
Neuropediatrics, 1989Two cases of multifocal white matter lesions occurring after viral illness are reported. Evoked potentials study and cranial magnetic resonance imaging (T2-weighted image) showed early abnormalities while CT scan was initially normal. Patients improved dramatically with steroid therapy.

The relation between white-matter lesions and cognition
Current Opinion in Neurology, 2007To summarize recent findings and developments in the field of the relation between white-matter lesions and cognition.Recent studies have provided further evidence that white-matter lesions exert a detrimental effect on cognitive profile. New magnetic-resonance techniques may help in clarifying the meaning and extent of this effect.

Perinatal Lesions of White Matter
1989Tribute is due, at this point, to Little’s role in laying the foundation of our understanding of perinatal cerebral damage. Little’s extensive report to the Obstetric Society of London in 1861, following two earlier publications (1843, 1853), reviewed his experience with 200 patients, 63 of them specified in a table.

Cerebral white matter lesions in essential hypertension
Current Hypertension Reports, 2001The pathogenesis and clinical significance of cerebral white matter lesions (WML) remain controversial. Most studies have shown that age, hypertension, diabetes mellitus, and a history of stroke or heart disease are the most important factors related to the presence of cerebral WML.
