Whole-Cell and Acellular Pertussis Vaccine: Reflections on Efficacy

open access: yesMedical Principles and Practice, 2022
Pertussis is a common respiratory infection caused by the bacterium Bordetella pertussis. Although most cases occur in developing countries, it is considered endemic globally. The World Health Organization estimates there are 20–40 million cases of pertussis annually. Pertussis vaccines played a pivotal role in reducing the burden of

Whole-cell inactivated Leptospirosis vaccine: Future prospects [PDF]

open access: yesHuman Vaccines & Immunotherapeutics, 2013
Leptospirosis is an infectious disease of worldwide distribution that is caused by pathogenic spirochete bacteria of the genus Leptospira. It is transmitted by the urine of an infected animal and contagious in a moist environment. Epidemiological studies indicate that infection is commonly associated with certain occupational workers such as farmers ...

Efektivitas Penggunaan Whole Cell Dari Vibrio alginolyticus Sebagai Vaksin Oral Melalui Artemia Pada Benih Ikan Kerapu Tikus (Chromileptes altivelis)
[Effectiveness Of Using Vibrio alginolyticus Whole Cell As Oralvaccine With Artemia To Humpback Grouper Fry (Chromileptes altivelis) ]

open access: yesJurnal Ilmiah Perikanan dan Kelautan, 2010
Humpback grouper is the one of marine fish which can culture. The major problem of humpback grouper culture is high mortality at short time caused by pathogen infection include virus, bacterial, parasite and fungi.

Shortening the Lipid A Acyl Chains of Bordetella pertussis Enables Depletion of Lipopolysaccharide Endotoxic Activity

open access: yesVaccines, 2020
Whooping cough, or pertussis, is an acute respiratory infectious disease caused by the Gram-negative bacterium Bordetella pertussis. Whole-cell vaccines, which were introduced in the fifties of the previous century and proved to be effective, showed ...

Evaluation of different total Leishmania amazonensis antigens for the development of a first-generation vaccine formulated with a Toll-like receptor-3 agonist to prevent cutaneous leishmaniasis [PDF]

open access: yesMemorias do Instituto Oswaldo Cruz, 2020
BACKGROUND Unfortunately, no any vaccine against leishmaniasis has been developed for human use. Therefore, a vaccine based on total Leishmania antigens could be a good and economic approach; and there are different methodologies to obtain these ...

Mechanisms and therapeutic opportunities of the ribotoxic stress response in cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Cancer cells' high translational demand creates opportunities to therapeutically target ribosome function. Ribosome stalling and collisions activate ZAKα and the ribotoxic stress response (RSR), which can trigger rapid, p53‐independent apoptosis in cancer.

Immune Checkpoint Inhibitor as a Fifth Component of Lipid Nanoparticles Enables Lymph Node-Targeting and Augments mRNA Vaccine Efficacy. [PDF]

open access: yesAdv Sci (Weinh)
Here, a PDL1 inhibitor is employed as a fifth component to modify lipid nanoparticles (LNPs). PDL1 inhibitor‐loaded LNPs show enhanced lymph node targeting, resulting in greater lymph node expansion, immune cell infiltration, and improved mRNA vaccine efficacy. This fifth component LNP could be a novel platform for mRNA vaccines.

Extracellular matrix remodeling and immune reprogramming drive residual tumor progression of liver cancer after incomplete microwave ablation

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Incomplete microwave ablation (iMWA) of liver cancer triggers a biphasic progression in residual tumors. At Day 3, the microenvironment is characterized by acute inflammatory responses and extracellular matrix (ECM) remodeling. By Day 14, a profound shift occurs toward oncogenic signal transduction and immunosuppression, marked by macrophage ...

Protocol workflow for whole blood memory B cell phenotyping and vaccine-specific antibody quantification [PDF]

open access: yesExploration of Immunology
Recurrent infections in children often prompt evaluation for primary immunodeficiency diseases, particularly those affecting humoral immunity. Assessment of memory B cell subsets and vaccine-specific antibody responses provides critical insight into long-

Age and Primary Vaccination Background Influence the Plasma Cell Response to Pertussis Booster Vaccination

open access: yesVaccines, 2022
Pertussis is a vaccine-preventable disease caused by the bacterium Bordetella pertussis. Over the past years, the incidence and mortality of pertussis increased significantly. A possible cause is the switch from whole-cell to acellular pertussis vaccines,
