Virtual microscopy in the undergraduate teaching of pathology

open access: yesJournal of Pathology Informatics, 2015
Background: Little evidence is available concerning the impact of virtual microscopy (VM) in the undergraduate teaching of pathology. We aimed: (1) to determine the impact in student scores when moving from conventional microscopy (CM) to VM; (2) to ...

Classification of Thyroid Carcinoma in Whole Slide Images Using Cascaded CNN

open access: yesIEEE Access, 2021
The objective of this research is to build a “Whole Slide Images” classification system using Convolutional Neural Network (CNN). This system is capable of classifying Thyroid tumors into three types: Follicular adenoma, follicular ...

RIPK4 function interferes with melanoma cell adhesion and metastasis

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
RIPK4 promotes melanoma growth and spread. RIPK4 levels increase as skin lesions progress to melanoma. CRISPR/Cas9‐mediated deletion of RIPK4 causes melanoma cells to form less compact spheroids, reduces their migratory and invasive abilities and limits tumour growth and dissemination in mouse models.

RT-4M: Real-Time Mosaicing Manager for Manual Microscopy System

open access: yesSensors
The creation of virtual slides, i.e., high-resolution digital images of biological samples, is expensive, and existing manual methods often suffer from stitching errors and additional reimaging costs.

Interactive case vignettes utilizing simulated pathologist-clinician encounters with whole slide imaging and video tutorials of whole slide scans improves student understanding of disease processes

open access: yesJournal of Pathology Informatics, 2012
Background: One of the drawbacks of studying pathology in the second year of medical school in a classroom setting is the relatively limited exposure to patient encounters/clinical rotations, making it difficult to understand and fully appreciate the ...

Learning to Segment Breast Biopsy Whole Slide Images

open access: yes, 2017
We trained and applied an encoder-decoder model to semantically segment breast biopsy images into biologically meaningful tissue labels. Since conventional encoder-decoder networks cannot be applied directly on large biopsy images and the different sized

Interrogating the immune landscape of microsatellite stable RAS‐mutated colon cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
COLOSSUS project RAS‐mutated MSS colon cancer study explored transcriptomics and immune cell density by immunohistochemistry (IHC), Immunoscore (IS), ISIC/TuLIS scores, mutation counts, and detected different prevalences but similar microenvironment composition across immune markers with clinical relevance for future immunotherapy combination ...

Classifying Whole Slide Images: What Matters?

open access: yes, 2023
Recently there have been many algorithms proposed for the classification of very high resolution whole slide images (WSIs). These new algorithms are mostly focused on finding novel ways to combine the information from small local patches extracted from the slide, with an emphasis on effectively aggregating more global information for the final ...

Establishment of a humanized patient‐derived xenograft mouse model of high‐grade serous ovarian cancer for preclinical evaluation of combination immunotherapy

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
We have established a humanized orthotopic patient‐derived xenograft (Hu‐oPDX) mouse model of high‐grade serous ovarian cancer (HGSOC) that recapitulates human tumor–immune interactions. Using combined anti‐PD‐L1/anti‐CD73 immunotherapy, we demonstrate the model's improved biological relevance and enhanced translational value for preclinical ...
