A 62-minute orbital period black widow binary in a wide hierarchical triple [PDF]

open access: yesNature, 2022
Over a dozen millisecond pulsars are ablating low-mass companions in close binary systems. In the original "black widow", the 8-hour orbital period eclipsing pulsar PSR J1959+2048 (PSR B1957+20), high energy emission originating from the pulsar is irradiating and may eventually destroy a low-mass companion.

Enhancing Manufacturing Cell Formation Through Availability-Based Optimization Using the Black Widow Optimizer Metaheuristic [PDF]

open access: yesBiomimetics
This study presents a multi-period Generalized Cell Formation Problem with Machine Availability (GCFP-MA) aimed at designing manufacturing cells that explicitly account for equipment reliability, maintainability, and temporal degradation.

Survey of Synanthropic Spiders in Ireland Reveals Expansion and Dominance of the Invasive Noble False Widow Steatoda nobilis in Urban Habitats (Araneae: Theridiidae) [PDF]

open access: yesEcology and Evolution
Rapid urbanisation has led several spider species to adapt to synanthropic microhabitats and establish large populations outside of their native ranges.

A puzzling 2-hour X-ray periodicity in the 1.5-hour orbital period black widow PSR J1311−3430

open access: yesAstronomy & Astrophysics, 2022
Time-domain analysis of an archival XMM-Newton observation unveiled a very unusual variability pattern in the soft X-ray emission of PSR J1311−3430, a black widow millisecond pulsar in a tight binary (PB = 93.8 min) with a very low-mass (M ∼ 0.01 M⊙) He companion star, known to show flaring emission in the optical and in the X-rays.
