Open letter: The need for a site‐based biodiversity standard measuring and certifying impacts from nature‐based projects

open access: yesPLANTS, PEOPLE, PLANET, EarlyView.
Despite growing investment in restoration, weak accountability and poor biodiversity monitoring mean many projects fail to achieve ecological recovery. The Global Biodiversity Standard (TGBS) offers a practical way to ensure that restoration finance delivers measurable gains for nature.

Effects of Planetary Parameters on Disequilibrium Chemistry in Irradiated Planetary Atmospheres: From Gas Giants to Sub-Neptunes

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal
A primary goal of characterizing exoplanet atmospheres is to constrain planetary bulk properties, such as their metallicity, C/O ratio, and intrinsic heat.

Discontinuity of maximum entropy inference and quantum phase transitions

open access: yesNew Journal of Physics, 2015
In this paper, we discuss the connection between two genuinely quantum phenomena—the discontinuity of quantum maximum entropy inference and quantum phase transitions at zero temperature. It is shown that the discontinuity of the maximum entropy inference

Thinking with trees: Responding to sympoietic plant relations through visual art

open access: yesPLANTS, PEOPLE, PLANET, EarlyView.
Amid escalating climate crises, this paper explores how we might rethink our relationship with the natural world, particularly with plants and trees, through the perspectives of visual art. This paper reveals how art invites us to see trees and other plant life not as passive background scenery, but as living beings with their own forms of experience ...

Spatial patterns of historical crop yields reveal soil health attributes in US Midwest fields

open access: yesScientific Reports
Attaining high crop yields and increasing carbon storage in agricultural soils, while avoiding negative environmental impacts on water quality, soil erosion, and biodiversity, requires accurate and precise management of crop inputs and management ...

Ejecta, Rings, and Dust in SN 1987A with JWST MIRI/MRS

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal, 2023
Supernova (SN) 1987A is the nearest supernova in ∼400 yr. Using the JWST MIRI Medium Resolution Spectrograph, we spatially resolved the ejecta, equatorial ring (ER), and outer rings in the mid-infrared 12,927 days (35.4 yr) after the explosion.
