Wind-Induced Torsional Loads and Responses of Buildings
Advanced Technology in Structural Engineering, 2000Wind-induced loads on a building are invariably spatially non-uniform and some twisting about its vertical axis results. The magnitude of this wind-induced moment or torque depends on the shape of the building, the influence of surrounding buildings and the direction of the wind.

Wind‐Induced Response of Golden Gate Bridge
Journal of Engineering Mechanics, 1983Full-scale observation data of wind-induced behaviour of the Golden Gate Bridge from a 1962 study was extensively re-examined by spectral analysis. The experimental investigation on the same bridge was also conducted using proposed taut strip bridge model with the simulation of natural wind turbulence at laboratory scale.

Wind-induced response of a tension leg platform
Journal of Wind Engineering and Industrial Aerodynamics, 1997Dynamic response studies of a tension leg platform (TLP) are carried out in time domain to investigate the influence of non-linearities due to the hydrodynamic drag force, variable cable tension, variable submergence, long excursions and fluctuating wind together with the effect of coupling.

Wind-induced responses of Beijing National Stadium
Wind and Structures An International Journal, 2011The wind-induced mean, background and resonant responses of Beijing National Stadium are investigated in this paper. Based on the concepts of potential and kinetic energies, the mode participation factors for the background and the resonant components are presented and the dominant modes are identified.

Wind-induced structural response of a large telescope
SPIE Proceedings, 2004In May of 2000, the construction progress of the Gemini South 8m telescope at Cerro Pachon in Chile was such that the telescope and dome were installed and able to move, but the primary mirror had not been installed. This provided a unique opportunity to make extensive tests of the structure in its nearly-completed state, including a modal impact ...

Wind Induced Dynamic Response Calculations
2014It is in the following taken for granted that the main wind direction throughout the entire span of the structure is perpendicular to the direction of its span. The wind velocity vector is split into three fluctuating orthogonal components, U in the main wind direction, and v and w in the across wind horizontal and vertical directions.

Wind-induced response of a large cantilevered roof
Journal of Wind Engineering and Industrial Aerodynamics, 1999Abstract The subject of this study is to clarify aerodynamic properties of a large cantilevered roof. We conducted free vibration experiments in order to investigate effects of various parameters such as mass, pitch angle, and damping ratio to wind-induced vibration of the roof.

The wind‐induced response characteristics of atypical tall buildings
The Structural Design of Tall and Special Buildings, 2007AbstractA tall building reacts sensitively to winds because the wind force increases according to the height and shape of the building. Various shapes of tall buildings and their aerodynamic characteristics have been studied extensively. For structural design and occupant comfort, the dynamic displacement of a tall building must be maintained within ...

Wind induced response of an elevated steel water tank
Wind and Structures, 2001The paper describes the results of the monitoring of an elevated steel water-tank with unusualrnshape, 85 m high and 40 m wide. The research was carried out analysing both the static and dynamicrnbehaviour under wind actions. The instruments used (some of which were employed for the first time forrnthis project) are described and the data processing ...

Aspects of the dynamic wind-induced response of structures and codification
Wind and Structures, 2005This paper describes the work of the International Association for Wind Engineering Working Group E -Dynamic Response, one of the International Codification Working Groups set up at the Tenth International Conference on Wind Engineering in Copenhagen. Comparisons of gust loading factors and wind-induced responses of major codes and standards are first ...
