Measurement of wind-induced response of buildings using RTK-GPS

open access: yesJournal of Wind Engineering and Industrial Aerodynamics, 2002
Abstract Accelerometers have been used for field measurements of wind-induced responses of buildings. However, wind-induced response consists of a static component, i.e. a mean value, and a dynamic fluctuating component. The static component is difficult to measure by accelerometers.

Numerical Analysis of Wind-Induced Response of a Wrinkled Membrane

International Journal of Structural Stability and Dynamics, 2020
Membranes have been popularly used in the fields of civil engineering and aerospace engineering. When wrinkled, a membrane loses its stiffness in the direction perpendicular to wrinkles and is more sensitive to wind loads. This paper numerically studied the wind-induced responses of a wrinkled membrane and their variations with respect to wind speed ...

Wind-induced dynamic response of Heliostat

Renewable Energy, 2012
Abstract Large-area, glass-metal heliostats have collection areas in the range of 100 m2–200 m2. The heliostats of Solar Tower power station, with high accuracy requirements during performance, are located at open terrain or suburban terrain and they are sensitive to gust.

Codification of Wind-Induced Dynamic Responses of Tall Buildings

HKIE Transactions, 1999
This paper discusses the codification of wind- induced dynamic responses on tall buildings based on the dynamic gust factor method and the Implication on the design wind loads according to the background data of the current Hong Kong Wind Code. The principles of the dynamic gust factor approach to the estimation of along-wind responses of tall ...

Rise Steel Wind-Induced Response Analysis

Advanced Materials Research, 2014
Taking a rise steel as a study, study response of the structure to the dynamic characteristics under fluctuating wind load. The results showed that: deformation of structure under the fluctuating wind load is shear deformation; Structural displacement response curve is similar to the curve of the pressure time history.

Predicting Wind-Induced Response in Hurricane Zones

Journal of the Structural Division, 1976
The procedure appropriate for regions where available wind data are representative of the strong wind climate, as is in regions where extreme winds are due mainly to large-scale weather systems. Recently a study of a major building proposed for New Orleans prompted an extension of the methods to consider effects of rare events such as hurricanes.

Human Response to Wind-Induced Motion of Buildings

Journal of the Structural Division, 1973
The various aspects of human response to tall building wind-induced motion are considered—including the results of two building occupant surveys. A rational format for including the wind-motion-discomfort issue in the design of tall buildings is presented, and a tentative criterion is proposed.

Wind-induced vibration response analysis of Chinese solar greenhouses

Computers and Electronics in Agriculture, 2021
Abstract Chinese solar greenhouses (CSG) are widely used in agricultural and horticultural industries in China. With the characteristics of lightweight, small stiffness and high flexibility, CSG are sensitive to wind loads. In this study, based on Davenport wind spectrum, the fluctuating wind speed time histories were simulated by harmony ...

Control of the Wind Induced Response of Structures

2013
In recent years, a drive towards the construction of buildings of increasing heights and bridges of increasing span lengths has generated the most fascinating challenges in the civil engineering field. Indeed, the particular sensitivity to wind loads of such extreme structures has to be faced when designing structural systems that have to possess ...

Wind-induced response of a twin-tower structure

Wind and Structures, 2001
With a newly developed multi-force-balance system(MFB), a twin-tower structure was studied for its wind-induced responses. The MFB system allowed the twin towers, which were linked structurally, to be treated as a single structural system with its corresponding modes of vibration involving coupled motions of the two towers. The towers were also studied
