Cell wall target fragment discovery using a low‐cost, minimal fragment library
LoCoFrag100 is a fragment library made up of 100 different compounds. Similarity between the fragments is minimized and 10 different fragments are mixed into a single cocktail, which is soaked to protein crystals. These crystals are analysed by X‐ray crystallography, revealing the binding modes of the bound fragment ligands.

A Marine Radar Wind Sensor [PDF]
A new method for retrieving the wind vector from radar-image sequences is presented. This method, called WiRAR, uses a marine X-band radar to analyze the backscatter of the ocean surface in space and time with respect to surface winds.

Wake Structures and Surface Patterns of the DrivAer Notchback Car Model under Side Wind Conditions [PDF]
The flow field topology of passenger cars considerably changes under side wind conditions. This changes the surface pressure, aerodynamic force, and drag and performance of a vehicle.

We reconstituted Synechocystis glycogen synthesis in vitro from purified enzymes and showed that two GlgA isoenzymes produce glycogen with different architectures: GlgA1 yields denser, highly branched glycogen, whereas GlgA2 synthesizes longer, less‐branched chains.

Direct Simulation of Reed Wind Instruments [PDF]
The synthesis of sound based on physical models of wind instruments has traditionally been carried out in a variety of ways. Digital waveguides (Smith 1986; Scavone 1997; van Walstijn and Campbell 2003; van Walstijn 2007) have been extensively explored, especially in the special cases of cylindrical and conical tubes, in which case they yield an ...

Short-term wind prediction using an ensemble of particle swarm optimised FIR filters [PDF]
Due to the large and increasing penetration of wind power around the world, accurate power production forecasts are required to manage power systems and wind power plants.

Calpain small subunit homodimerization is robust and calcium‐independent
Calpains dimerize via penta‐EF‐hand (PEF) domains. Using single‐molecule force spectroscopy, we measured the strength and kinetics of PEF–PEF homodimer binding. The interaction is robust, shows a transient conformational step before dissociation, and remains largely insensitive to Ca2+.

Improved models of upper-level wind for several astronomical observatories
An understanding of wind speed and direction as a function of height are critical to the proper modeling of atmospheric turbulence. We have used radiosonde data from launch sites near significant astronomical observatories and created mean profiles of ...

Plasma membranes contain dynamic nanoscale domains that organize lipids and receptors. Because viruses operate at similar scales, this architecture shapes early infection steps, including attachment, receptor engagement, and entry. Using influenza A virus and HIV‐1 as examples, we highlight how receptor nanoclusters, multivalent glycan interactions ...
