Patient therapy outcome modeling in cancer organoids is improved by cancer‐associated fibroblasts and organoid assembly convolution

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Patient‐derived organoids (PDOs) from pancreatic, colorectal, and gastric cancers were used to evaluate standard and experimental therapies. Incorporating cancer‐associated fibroblasts (CAFs) into organoid cultures improved patient therapy outcome prediction.

Modelling the aerodynamics of vertical-axis wind turbines in unsteady wind conditions

open access: yes, 2013
Most numerical and experimental studies of the performance of vertical-axis wind turbines have been conducted with the rotors in steady, and thus somewhat artificial, wind conditions - with the result that turbine aerodynamics, under varying wind ...

In vitro and in silico modelling of ROS1‐positive non‐small cell lung cancer reveals fusion‐dependent tyrosine kinase inhibitor responses

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Drug resistance limits treatment success in a subset of lung cancers driven by ROS1 gene alterations. Using patient‐derived cells and computer simulations, we studied three key mutations and how they affect five targeted drugs. The mutations reduced drug effectiveness in different ways by altering protein structure and behavior.

A status report of wind-driven rain research at the Laboratory of Building Physics, K.U.Leuven

open access: yes, 2006
This paper reports on past and ongoing wind-driven rain (WDR) research at the Laboratory of Building Physics, K.U.Leuven. It is based on the philosophy that WDR research consists of two main parts: (1) The assessment of the amount and intensity of WDR ...

Wind tunnel test for outdoor billboards in coastal city

open access: yesAdvances in Mechanical Engineering
To address the safety hazards of coastal outdoor billboards under extreme wind disasters and the limitations of existing design codes, this study conducts systematic wind tunnel tests on three kinds of typical billboards (floor-standing single-panel ...

The reliability of wind turbines [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
The residual scepticism surrounding the installation of wind turbines, is mainly due to the perceived lack of reliability and expense of these energy converters. Because of the commercial significance of reliability, few sources of such data are publicly

Mycobacterial cell division arrest and smooth‐to‐rough envelope transition using CRISPRi‐mediated genetic repression systems

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
CRISPRI‐mediated gene silencing and phenotypic exploration in nontuberculous mycobacteria. In this Research Protocol, we describe approaches to control, monitor, and quantitatively assess CRISPRI‐mediated gene silencing in M. smegmatis and M. abscessus model organisms.

Insights into the aerodynamic response of a harmonic oscillating airfoil in various turbulent flows

open access: yesCommunications Engineering
The general theory of aerodynamic instability and the mechanism of flutter has been applied for decades in the environmental condition of uniform flow. Given the substantial growth in wind energy technology and aerospace in recent decades, there has been
