Fatigue Damage of Wind Turbine Gearbox Under Extreme Wind Conditions

2018 Prognostics and System Health Management Conference (PHM-Chongqing), 2018
This paper presents a study of quantifying wind turbine gearbox damage under extreme wind attaches and various pitch system response speed. The evaluation is performed by constructing a 1.5MW variable-speed wind turbine model which integrates multi-body dynamic model of a three stage gearbox in the assist of GH bladed software.

Wind turbulence impacts to onshore and offshore wind turbines gearbox fatigue life

3rd Renewable Power Generation Conference (RPG 2014), 2014
As a critical mechanical component of a wind turbine, gearbox failures mainly attribute to cumulative fatigue. Therefore, understanding and quantifying fatigue impacts to wind turbine operational life is important for its design optimization. According to ISO 6336, gearbox service life under variable load can be calculated and the damage due to ...

Vibration alarm threshold determination of wind turbine gearbox

The 27th Chinese Control and Decision Conference (2015 CCDC), 2015
Through the analysis of 50 doubly-fed wind turbine gearboxes, the fundamental vibration feature of wind turbine gearbox and the fluctuation range of vibration value during the normal operation were studied. The method of determining the vibration evaluation threshold by using statistical average and standard deviation was proposed. Statistical analysis

Dynamic Characterization of Wind Turbine Gearboxes in Operational Conditions

2015
The gearbox is one of the key subsystems in a typical wind turbine. It has the task to transfer power from the low speed shaft connected to the rotor to the high speed shaft connected to the generator. Larger wind turbines require more power and gearboxes with higher load capacity need to be designed and a deep knowledge into gearbox dynamics becomes ...

Redesign of a Gearbox for 5MW Wind Turbines

Volume 8: 11th International Power Transmission and Gearing Conference; 13th International Conference on Advanced Vehicle and Tire Technologies, 2011
Wind turbines with gearboxes must regain the highest possible reliability as fast as possible. This can occur with improved gearbox designs. Epicyclic gear drives with multiple planet gears would be technically correct to solve this torque transmission problem. A maximal compactness and lightweight construction is thus achieved.
