Winter hardiness of durum wheat in Hungary
Acta Agronomica Hungarica, 2003One basic precondition for the reliable cultivation of winter durum wheat (Triticum durum Desf.) in Hungary is for the varieties to have good winter hardiness and frost resistance. Field overwintering experiments carried out in Martonvásár between 1995 and 2003 demonstrated that there was a significant difference every year between the overwintering of

A Study of Cold Hardiness of Winter Barley
Transactions of the Kansas Academy of Science (1903-), 1961has been customary to express the amounts of the various fractions as percent of fresh weight (2, 3). Pauli and Mitchell (6) concluded that such an expression may be misleading with some tissues, since the moisture content of wheat plants decreased when plants were grown at a low temperature.

Improving Winter Hardiness in Winter Oats by Seed Treatment with PGRS
1986Winter hardiness is one of the main factors affecting harvestable yields in winter oats. As breeding for high yields is generally accompanied by reduced winter hardiness, the possible beneficial effects of applying an experimental plant growth regulator (pgr) as a seed dressing were investigated in a pot experiment.

The Evaluation of Crop Plants for Winter Hardiness
1956Publisher Summary The chapter describes that the plant breeder, agronomist, or horticulturist, in the evaluation of crop plants for winter hardiness, the physical and chemical changes or properties that accompany winter hardiness should be found easily and reliably and to a greater degree in varieties that are winter-hardy than in those that are not.
