Density‐dependent habitat selection in plains bison

open access: yesThe Journal of Wildlife Management, EarlyView.
Using GPS collar data, we tested whether habitat selection of plains bison in Grasslands National Park, Canada, was density dependent. Bison selected for areas of high vegetation productivity far from human activity when population density was low and increased use of lower productivity habitat closer to disturbance as density increased.

Performance of Winter-Seeded Spring Wheat in Inner Mongolia

open access: yesAgronomy, 2019
Growing spring wheat in Inner Mongolia is challenging because of the short growing period, dry-hot winds, and heat-forced maturity. There are also problems with growing winter wheat varieties, such as frost damage, spring droughts, and “late spring

Assessment of Soil Erosion Over Six Decades in a Long‐Term Experiment Using Fallout 137Cs and RUSLE: A South American Case Study

open access: yesLand Degradation &Development, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Soil erosion remains a major global concern affecting agricultural productivity and land sustainability. This study investigates the magnitude and variability of soil erosion in a long‐term experiment (LTE) established in 1963 in Colonia, Uruguay, aiming to compare the performance of the 137Cs tracer technique and the RUSLE model across ...

Effects of Low Temperature at Booting Stage on Sucrose Metabolism and Endogenous Hormone Contents in Winter Wheat Spikelet

open access: yesFrontiers in Plant Science, 2019
Low spring temperatures often occur during the winter wheat booting stage, when the young ears are very sensitive to cold. In this study, we used two wheat varieties differing in cold sensitivity (sensitive variety Yangmai 18 and tolerant variety Yannong

Vergleich einer Herbstsaat von ausgewählten Winter- und Sommerweizensorten bzgl. Ertrag und Qualität [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Achieving high baking quality and sufficient yield is often a challenge in organic wheat production. Two varieties of winter wheat and seven varieties of spring wheat in autumn sowing (End of October) were compared regarding winter hardiness, grain yield

Compound‐Specific Stable Isotope Analysis Improves the Association Between Dairy Fatty Acid Biomarkers and Dairy Intake: A Secondary Analysis

open access: yesLipids, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Increasing evidence suggests that dairy consumption may decrease the risk of chronic diseases. However, this association remains unclear due to methodological limitations. As a part of a secondary analysis, we used compound‐specific stable isotope analysis to increase the accuracy of the dairy FA biomarkers (15:0, 17:0), considering that each ...

Drivers of human attitudes towards wolves Canis lupus in Kazakhstan

open access: yesPeople and Nature, EarlyView.
Abstract Kazakhstan is recognized as a key stronghold for the grey wolf (Canis lupus). Nonetheless, the wolf status and the dynamics of human‐wolf coexistence in the region remain poorly understood. This study aims to fill that gap by exploring current attitudes towards wolves in Kazakhstan and identify the underlying drivers of these attitudes.

Automatic grading evaluation of winter wheat lodging based on deep learning

open access: yesFrontiers in Plant Science
Lodging is a crucial factor that limits wheat yield and quality in wheat breeding. Therefore, accurate and timely determination of winter wheat lodging grading is of great practical importance for agricultural insurance companies to assess agricultural ...

The efficiency of a durum wheat-winter pea intercrop to improve yield and wheat grain protein concentration depends on N availability during early growth [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
Grain protein concentration of durum wheat is often too low, particularly in low-N-input systems. The aim of our study was to test whether a durum wheat - winter pea intercrop can improve relative yield and durum wheat grain protein concentration in low ...
